Cotswold Lodge

Great location but VERY hard unusable pillows and a security light outside room going on and off all night. Also noisy floorboards in room above. Lovely breakfast and a great hotel in a lot of ways but not a good night's sleep.

I used the hotel as a base for 3 days in Oxford - which I can only recommend as a tourist destination. I had a single room facing the farm, and that was an average: Clean and nice and the bed was good. There was only cleaning if asked. Breakfast was average but okay. The reception staff was not to shake a smile off and the staff at all were correct, without I can put a finger on anything, but not friendly. I did not feel welcome and will not come there again.

First, this review is from an 80-year-old man; your mileage may vary. We stayed nearly a month in room 9, the Merton Suite. They fully advised No Lift and 45+ steps to the room. It's a lot. Merton is two large rooms and comfortable, if somewhat like great aunt Helen's: well-worn (photo attached) and heavily furnished. The bedroom has large beams down each side and in the living room. I'm only six feet tall but needed alertness. The walk to The Broad is about 20-25 minutes for us. We had lovely weather; in rain it might be more of a challenge. The major strength, as others highlight, is staff. Well-selected and brilliantly trained, they could not have been more helpful. I will list names (with full knowledge that I shall leave someone out). In front, Anne-Marie, Samantha, Ko, David, and Kana. Also up front and ever-watchful, manager Vijitha. In the bar, Juan, Slavo, Charlie, Josh, Asia, Amelia, and Amba. Everyone friendly without being overly familiar and quick to accommodate a whim. We would stay again happily .. ten years ago.
