We recently stayed at this hotel for our anniversary, having booked the more expensive Suite (Room 3), overall we came away with mixed feelings.
The hotel itself is steeped in history and full of character. The decor is wonderful, and the beautifully manicured gardens are a real credit to the property however the place lacked ambiance. We had also been led to believe from Google that there was an outdoor swimming pool, but unfortunately this is no longer in operation, which was disappointing.
On arrival, the blonde receptionist was warm, friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, our experience with another receptionist, Imie? was the complete opposite. She came across as rude, dismissive which certainly wasn’t the welcome we’d expected from a four-star hotel.
Our room, Suite Room 3, was absolutely lovely. It was clean, spacious and full of period charm—perfect if you enjoy heritage-style accommodation. There were a few cobwebs on the windows and one of the main light bulbs wasn’t working, but these were relatively minor issues. The room was well equipped with dressing gowns, slippers and other thoughtful touches. The coffee machine, however, was frustrating to use, and by the time we’d managed to produce what looked like an oily cup of coffee, it simply wasn’t worth the effort. There was some music noise from downstairs, but the fan in the room effectively drowned it out.
We headed to the bar for drinks, but unfortunately this was where things started to go downhill. There was no ambience at all. The choice of music playing did not reflect what you would expect at this type of hotel. The bar wasn’t manned, although we were initially offered a beer tasting, which was a nice touch. After choosing a beer, we were then told it had run out. We carried our drinks from the front of the hotel around to the rear gardens, where there were no ashtrays available for smokers, despite it being an outdoor seating area. The gardens themselves, however, were beautiful.
When ordering our second round, we asked for another Pinot Grigio but were brought a Pinot Rosé instead. When we politely explained this wasn’t what we’d ordered, the staff member argued with us, making us feel extremely uncomfortable. In the end, I felt obliged to accept the drink just to avoid further confrontation. We were then told they had no Pinot Grigio left, only for one to mysteriously become available moments later. These repeated inconsistencies were frustrating and really began to spoil what should have been a special anniversary celebration.
That evening we dined in the restaurant. Unknown to me, my husband had planned a very special surprise—he intended to ask me to renew our vows and present me with a new engagement ring. Before booking, he had specifically checked that the hotel stocked Moët Champagne. However, when we ordered it, we were told they didn’t have any. We chose an alternative wine, only to be told they didn’t have that either. After my husband questioned this, a bottle of Moët suddenly became available after all. This inconsistency was disappointing, especially given the significance of the occasion.
To add to this, the staff member repeatedly referred to the £100 bottle of Moët as “wine”, which didn’t inspire confidence. It was initially presented properly in a silver ice bucket, only for it to be taken away and replaced with a plastic carrier - Not only this but staff presented us with wine glasses! when we raised this they said they did not have any champagne glasses. While the staff were polite for the most part and clearly trying their best, they lacked the confidence, professionalism and attention to detail you’d expect from a four-star hotel. More training would undoubtedly improve the guest experience. Our only truly negative interactions were with Imie? and the manager, who appeared uninterested in our concerns.
On a positive note, the evening meal itself was absolutely outstanding - (compliments onto the chef) and easily one of the highlights of our stay. Breakfast, however, was more disappointing, with items such as the hash browns being soft and floppy rather than crisp.
Overall, this hotel has enormous potential. The building, history, gardens and beautiful rooms easily provide a four-star setting, but the service and hospitality currently fall short of that standard. We have experienced much better service at many other hotels with 3 star ratings.
With improved staff training, better stock management and a greater focus on customer care, this hotel could genuinely be exceptional. Sadly, on this occasion, the service prevented what should have been a truly memorable anniversary from living up to its promise and spoilt what was supposed to be our happy occasion.

We attended a family wedding and stayed overnight at Weston Manor Hotel. It is an impressive Grade II listed building with beautiful grounds. The drive into the venue is very impressive. The wedding ceremony was held outside in the stunning grounds with a resident MC (Matt) ensuring all guests were well looked after by the staff.
The wedding breakfast was superb, a really good 3 course meal with good service by the team. The food was well presented, and for 50 covers, was still hot when served.
The staff for the whole day and night were excellent and worked long shifts but were thoroughly professional and attentive throughout.
The bedroom was in the main house overlooking the courtyard. It was a nice room, albeit somewhat small and we did feel a little cramped (Room 7).
Breakfast was outstanding. Plenty of choice and again, very attentive staff, many of which had been working the night before.
Overall a lovely venue which has the ability of separating residents from the wedding party which means that guests not attending the wedding do not find the wedding impacts on their stay; something many venues are unable to offer.
We would return when back in the area. Big thank you to all the staff.
One observation. Dust from the courtyard during a dry spell does end up everywhere, on clothes and throughout the property, especially on carpeted areas! I feel for housekeeping!!
