Old Mill Inn

The hotel is beautiful, our room was great with a wonderful bathroom and really spotless. We also really liked the location away from the street with the great beer garden. The staff was mostly very friendly and helpful, especially the young new lady who checked us in and the great Italian at breakfast. The breakfast (everything made to order fresh) was excellent. We have to deduct points for the food, or rather the price-performance ratio. Over 6 dollars for a beer, as well as for a tiny portion of fries or a side salad is simply too much. Partially, the portion sizes of the main courses were also a bit small. However, it was delicious.

We visit Pitlochry all the time and always start off our stay with a visit to The Old Mill. This was a special celebration for us. we were however let down very badly with the worst meal I have ever had. my wife had the Rib Eye Steak and it was cold (so was the plate) the chips were dried up and cold. I went for the fish and it must have been the smallest piece of fish i have ever had it was also cold with the same chips. Dried and on a very cold plate. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. we had crumble for dessert and it was bland and tasteless. We will wait and check reviews before returning.

The Old Mill Inn is ideally placed in Pitlochry, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff are all friendly. The only issues we had were in the restaurant. I was served the wrong main meal in the evening (which they admitted was their error) and had to wait 7/8 minutes on the correct order being prepared while my wife ate hers - not the best dining experience. That evening the bill had to be adjusted as 2 coffees had been added on where we had only ordered one. At breakfast next day we opened a pat of butter to find it mouldy inside, it turned out they were all weeks out of date - not what you expect in a busy restaurant. The waiter was very apologetic but this should never have happened. These avoidable mistakes detracted from an otherwise enjoyable visit.
