Llanddetty Hall Farm

Myself and son arrived at Llandetty Hall Farm, Brecon LD3 7YR yesterday (6th August 2026) at 4pm to stay in the Old Brye, a self contained holiday let. We were due to stay for 3 nights. We attempted to stay but found the property unsafe due to strong sewage odours, especially within both en-suites. The owners, Neil & Jim (no surname given) would not accept there was an odour. They suggested we keep flushing the toilets and tried to give us an air freshener. We were told by Neil & Jim that sometimes the septic tank can smell but it goes away within the same day. We didn’t feel it was safe to stay overnight and wait for the smell to pass. At 7pm, they did offer us a full refund and suggested we look for somewhere else to stay. Neil & Jim left shortly after at 7pm to go to a show. 7.15pm: neighbouring family, staying in the Old Dovecote, arrived. On asking the family staying next door if their unit smelt of drains they invited us in to smell it for ourselves. Their unit did not smell. They visited our unit and confirmed it smelt very badly of drains and suggested we shouldn’t stay overnight as it would be unsafe to breathe in. On finding out the other units were fine but ours was not, this suggested it was not a septic tank problem but possibly a plumbing problem specially within our unit. I let the owners know this but they had left the premises at this stage. The manhole cover adjacent to our unit also had very a very strong sewage smell. We were in the property from 4pm -7pm and the strong sewage smell was consistently bad. 7.30pm: I message Neil to let him know we are leaving the property to go home. We had not yet received the refund so l did not book anywhere else to stay and they were uncontactable as at a show. The money was refunded after asking again the following day. I am concerned the owners did not take our complaint seriously and seem to have no intention on sorting it out, other than “buying us some room air fresheners on their way home from the show if the shops were still open”.

Our third amazing stay, this time in the Old Byre, which was ideal for us, our son and our cocker spaniel. The owners were brilliant when we needed to change plans, and we had a warm welcome back. The standard of the accommodation is high and also homely. We love the quiet location, right on the canal, and with great walks nearby. After a sunny Sunday we have vowed to come back again for longer next time.

We’ve just spent the last week of May at the wonderful Llandetty Hall Farm. We rented all 3 barns, the Old Salting Barn, the Old Dovecote and the Old Byre as we were a large family group celebrating 3 birthdays. All 3 spotless interiors were thoughtfully and tastefully designed with lots of extra special touches and attention to detail throughout. Beautiful big bathrooms, comfortable bedrooms, cosy living/eating spaces and fully equipped kitchens - all rooms were to such a high standard and a real pleasure to use. The communal barn was a great bonus where we all regularly gathered together, having its own kitchenette with a large fridge/freezer and fully stocked with plenty of glasses and crockery. Not to mention the pool table. Or the fabulous sound system, which we used to great effect for our karaoke evening. The pretty surrounding courtyard with outdoor tables for each barn and the resident white doves gave the whole setting such a calm and magical feeling. The chickens and pigs were also a delightful feature that everyone enjoyed. And there is a gorgeous stretch of canal just behind the farm, we did lovely walks in both directions with pubs as our destination. The owners, Neil and Jim were very welcoming and flexible, they gave us lots of information about the local area and places of interest. We all truly loved staying in this wonderfully unique and relaxing place, and we are right now going through our diaries to book a return stay!
