Haughton Hall

On arrival up the drive, we were quite shocked by how run down the building looked. Lots of parking available but ignore the signs (apparently no longer monitored by that company and signs have not been removed). Easy and friendly check in, staff very professional and welcoming. We were in room 38 which may of been the furthest room. The corridor leading to the room was quite shocking. Curtains hanging off, damp walls and real deep dirt./mould. A random kitchen pedal bin here and there. The bedroom felt dirty and even had a hole in the wall (see pics). We checked out the pool etc and it just looked dirty and dated. Such a shame. Breakfast was ok, wasn't hot and we had to ask for the beans to be re-heated as stone cold. The staff though are efficient and friendly. Would I recommend? Yes if it's just a bed you need.

We stayed here for a 3rd time now - get a bit annoyed at some of the negative reviews that I see so had to put up a review The place is very old and there are wonky floors and doors and some areas that need a lick of paint but to me this is part of the charm. The place is ridiculously cheap, always clean, friendly staff, good atmosphere and a superb breakfast - will continue to use this place 2 or 3 times a year and can only say great things about it Thanks to the management and staff for another lovely stay

Not all reviews are totally to be trusted...... Now having booked this hotel as a last minute getaway to the area we then read the reviews and wondered if we had made a mistake. OK we were only staying the night and it was a great price so we decided to take a chance and see what we honestly thought of the hotel. This is an honest review of the hotel and our personal opinion of the hotel. On arrival we noted that the grounds seemed to be a little over grown and despite the impressive entry vew of the hotel this was let down by the car park area around the side. The signs mentioned a car parking fee and an app but reception informed us that they no longer operate a car park fee. The hotel staff were excellant and very friendly and we were soon directed to our room. No lift so a first floor room meant going up the stairs with our bags but again the manor house look was most pleasant. We were staying in the extention of the hotel at the rear overlooking the gazebo and gardens. The room as others have pointed out is quite out of date but I must say it was spotless and a credit to the cleaning staff as it is easy to fall down on the cleaning if the decor is not modern. The decor was in all honestly very functional and the coffe and tea area was well equiped for our needs. As this was in the midst of the 5th heatwave of the year and the area being on a yellow alert the room fan was very very poor and we would have been cooked but thankfully we brought out own fans from home and with this we were more than adequately cooled. So better fans may be advised. The beds were lovely and comfortable and more than adequate for a great nghts sleep and curtains thick enough to keep out the morning sunlight. Our view was of the gaxzebo and the lake and lovely to see the wildlife around the place. Though it was somewhat spoilt by some people who used the rear seating for a mid evening drink and then proceeded to leave their bottles of wine and glasses on the table and the floor where the sun could have easily set fire to the dried grass...... Not the hotels fault but guests being thoughtless..... The actual rest of the hotel was clean and tidy and though would seem outdated what did we really expect from a manor house ? We go to these places to be immersed in culture and should not expect that the decor be all glossy and shiny and if that is the case go to a more modern hotel hih will lack the charactor of this fine place. We did not look at the pool or the gym as we were only on an overnight sorry. The Breakfast was adequate for all out needs and quite a homely affair with all the standard fair and with two adults requiringa Gluten Free diet this was adequately catered for by the staff. Though we would advise that they purchase a standalone toaster solely for the gluten free bread and this would have avoided the need to have the toast made in the oven. The breakfast was cooked to order and brought to the take by lovely staff that were very attentive. All in all it was a lovely overnight break at a lovely hotel with lots of potential and am sure that with new owners this will soon be back to a fantastic hotel and I wish them all the best for the future and am sure with the staff as good as this they will be onto a good start. So in essence this is a quaint hotel with oldy world charm that despite needing some updating this does not mean modernising and we enjoyed the feeling that this gave us in this modern world of modern hotels and soleless buildings.
