Lovely quiet location, much appreciated after a long drive. Very quiet room with view of Bath Abbey. Restaurant food was great

I decided to treat my husband to a surprise weekend in Bath. Having enjoyed two previous visits to The Bird, I booked an Abbey View King room. We arrived at The Bird had a few drinks on their terrace in the sunshine, then walked into Bath while we waited for check-in at 3pm. On our return we were shown to our Abbey View King room (31) by Isobel. We were both far from impressed when she opened the door to our tiny £270 a night room with curtains that were literally torn to shreds ! She moved us across the corridor into a Deluxe King (23) with a view of the car park and busy main road (apparently no other room's with Abbey views were available) Although the room itself was in a far better state of repair than number 31, the bathroom requires renovation. Sadly our disappointment didn’t end there. I had booked dinner at The Plate to celebrate my husband’s 11th Kidney Anniversary. After browsing the menu Krisztian The Restaurant Manager came to take our order. Nearly every item we chose from the concise starter menu was unavailable. No prawns, no Scotch eggs, no squid for The Bath Chap. Fortunately my husband ordered a burger for his main which he enjoyed. Unbelievably when we ordered our desserts….yes you guessed it, the chocolate hazelnut parfait was UNAVAILABLE !!! Krisztian was very apologetic and did his utmost to insure we were well looked after and enjoyed our evening, despite being sorely let down by the kitchen. We on the other hand were sorely let down by the lack of maintenance that is severely overdue in at least two of their supposedly premium bedrooms ? The Bird has certainly let its standards slide.

We were traveling as a family and chose The Bird for our stay. It's a 10 minute walk to the downtown area, and conveniently located in the city. The daily breakfast was SO GOOD! Definitely recommend!
