Meryan House Hotel

My son and I stayed here for 8 days when visiting the nearby hospice. We found the owner to be extremely helpful and flexible in providing us with accommodation at a very difficult time. She catered for our special diets and was very flexible on meal times and when we could use our rooms. The breakfasts were fine and rooms very comfortable. Above all, we found a very warm welcome.

The worst place I have ever had the misfortune to stay in Arrived very late otherwise would have left immediately. Stale smell in reception that was worse in our ground floor room. Bedding and towels were old and dingy. Pillows and mattress smelly. Towels dingy and crusty. Curtain rail and curtains hanging off the wall Lady owner had a list of what we couldn’t do and even said what time we were allowed to go to breakfast Needless to say we didn’t bother and left early after a very unpleasant night Hotel is in dire need of renovation or closure and the owner is in denial about the true state of the place

Stayed 5 nights with a group who had booked the entire hotel. It's actually not a hotel, in my opinion, but a B and B. Whilst the dining room, garden and staff were very nice, there were some bad and terrible aspects. The rooms are dated and smelly. I had to wait several days for a lightbulb to be replaced. The towels were dry and crispy. They have a Chinese menu which they claim to cook themselves. It looks like it actually comes from the local take away - with a mark up... It was served to us by the owner's son in bare feet. Breakfast is cheap and awful. The woman owner is very abrupt and comes across rude, questioning everything you ask for... Their dog was allowed to wander around everywhere ... But the worst is the woman's husband whom we hadn't met before - an awful, vulgar, boorish man. My husband and I were coming down the stairs two nights before our stay was to end, as we had decided to stay elsewhere... He became very, very threatening. I explained I had mentioned to his wife that I was leaving and would not be staying the last 2 nights. Which I'd already paid for! And I would settle up during the following day for the meal and drink I had had on a previous night. I explained that he had my name and details - which he denied... I said that there were other members of the same party still staying and he must have details of the company who had booked. He then became frighteningly aggressive and tried to prevent me from leaving! He started shouting expletives at me, called me a peasant (and worse words), stuck his middle finger up at me, and told me to f..k off!! Others heard the commotion and what he was shouting. What an absolutely awful place!! DON'T GO THERE!!
