Central location with good secure parking, professional staff, large rooms, quiet at night, excellent breakfast selections, lovely outside seating areas.

While there was much to like about this hotel, a couple of things really spoilt our stay. The positives: great location, big car park, large room with comfy bed (pillows a bit hard for my liking), we had a lovely meal in the bar one night. On the downside: the bathroom was awful. In first glance it looked very nice, but proved to be style over substance . The toilet was squeezed between the wall and a very unforgiving sink unit - one had to carefully manoeuvre to avoid banging into one side or other . The shower was almost unusable - the room was built into the roof, so there was a sloping wall next to the shower, meaning one couldn't stand up straight . Added to that, there was one of those awful cheap shower curtains that stick to you, so it was a choice between being wrapped in a clammy curtain or squatting down below the level of the roof! The final nail in the coffin was the fact that, for most of our stay, there was a decorator painting the woodwork in our floor, meaning we had to walk over dustsheets and sidestep ladders each time we came to our room. He even asked us to leave our door open one day so he could paint the architrave. Really not acceptable . Such a shame as we probably would have given the hotel a score of 5 had we had a different room .

I stayed overnight at this creaky old hotel some weeks while attending a local event. As I wasn't going to be back in time for an evening meal, I asked for a room service salad dish to be left for my return only to be told they didn't do room service. It left me rather unhappy.
