This is probably the 5h or 6th time we have been to the Angel and it never disappoints The hotel is lovely and we have a ground floor courtyard splendid room which is always lovely. The food is always exceptional and the staff from the concierge, waiting staff, reception and gentleman in the suits are always helpful, friendly and accommodating The location is perfect for the cathedral and for the local shops and just up the road are the chain shops and cinema. Only one point I would raise is to watch the walk in showers as I was recovering from a bad sprained ankle and the shower tray was slightly slippery but when I mentioned this to reception they did advise they had Mats so next time I would ask for this

Couldn’t decide between 3 or 4 star review. Third time staying so we must like it but there are some things that need commenting on, first the positive. Location perfect for the centre of town, staff so friendly from start to finish, food excellent. On the negatives our room which was a Classic ivy, room 214, is very tired to say the least, shower permanent hot, grout black, no fridge and a few other gripes, not good for a room which cost £650 for 2 nights, to get a fridge and working shower is another £100, I checked. A shame as there is much to admire with the hotel, as mentioned staff are excellent but are sometimes working with below average surroundings. One thing I have noticed is no or little management response to reviews, also very poor, would be nice to think they care about these things.

The room was nice, but a little dated and lacked some basics, i.e. a set of drawers, a fridge. There is no air-con, although there was a fan. The bathroom had received a makeover at some point, but I was surprised to see a shower curtain!! Also the tiles had not had the grout cleaned for some time and had an orange residue on them. The food was very good, although a little expensive and the drinks were reasonably priced. The bar and restaurant staff were excellent,. The staff worked incredibly hard, but still managed to be very attentive and helpful.
