County Hotel by Thistle

My second stay at this hotel and thoroughly recommend . It is conveniently placed opposite Newcastle Central Station and combines old -world charm with modern convenience/s. Reception team are efficient and welcoming. The rooms are somewhat "dated" but meticulously clean and well stocked with the normal essentials. My room was at the back of the hotel and overlooking a car park and beautiful rose bushes. It was very peaceful considering the location in the city centre. I did not use the restaurants and bar.

Booked through Expedia for a stay on Friday 31st July and arrived to find that the hotel had cancelled our rooms without any proper communication. They claimed Expedia had “charged too cheap”, yet nobody contacted me directly just a same day cancellation message buried in the app. For something this important, a phone call would have been the bare minimum. The receptionist and I presume manager were extremely rude, dismissive, and offered no apology whatsoever. There was zero accountability, and based on other reviews, it seems I’m not the only one who has experienced this kind of treatment. They then offered for us to pay an additional £60 to rebook the exact same rooms that were still available. Thankfully, I managed to secure another hotel for less, but I genuinely can’t understand why a business would rather leave rooms empty and lose money entirely instead of honouring a booking even if the price was lower through Expedia. This for me is something they should raise with Expedia rather then taking it out on the customer. Overall, the experience was horrific. No compassion, no professionalism, and certainly no customer service. I wouldn’t return unless there were major staff changes.

WOW the guy on reception stand in manager is arragont rude argumentative un professional and lacks any customer service skills...Acts tough standing behind that desk be different in the real world
