County Hotel by Thistle Newcastle

If I'd actually stayed, the rating might have been better, but we'll never know! Despite dropping off bags at 1pm and being told the room wasn't ready, by the time we returned in the evening, the receptionist said there were no rooms available and we'd have to go elsewhere. Seems like this hotel has a problem honouring it's Expedia bookings, so please do them a favour and book elsewhere!

I booked a single room which in itself was comfortable & contained everything I would possibly need. The room felt very isolated being on the 5th floor at the end of a very long corridor. I had breakfast the next morning & had asked my grandson to join me. I was advised payment for breakfast would be deducted from the £50 taken on check in. I was attending my grandson's graduation so was out for the rest of the day & evening. I checked out the next morning around 10am. Upon checking my invoice when I returned home I noticed that not only had my balance not been repaid but there were charges I knew nothing about! I queried this several times by phone & email. This simple overcharge took this hotel a full month to sort out. It did sour what was otherwise an enjoyable experience. WARNING - CHECK YOUR INVOICE/CHARGES

My second stay at this hotel and thoroughly recommend . It is conveniently placed opposite Newcastle Central Station and combines old -world charm with modern convenience/s. Reception team are efficient and welcoming. The rooms are somewhat "dated" but meticulously clean and well stocked with the normal essentials. My room was at the back of the hotel and overlooking a car park and beautiful rose bushes. It was very peaceful considering the location in the city centre. I did not use the restaurants and bar.
