Tankerville Arms Hotel

Four couples stayed at the Tankerville Arms as part of our St Cuthbert's pilgrimage from Melrose Abbey to Lindisfarne Holy Island walk led by expert guide Wendy Lloyd of Mullanotherway.com (highly recommended). The Tankerville is a wonderful, historic hotel whose history one can feel upon entering its lobby. The Hotel that was up for sale at the time - so please discount any less than positive reviews from 2025 as being not representative of who she is now, the service or value - we loved it. The Tankerville Arms is so centrally located to St Cuthbert's way that with a volunteer shuttle drive any group could easily stay their entire time in the charming hotel for each leg of the journey. We only discovered the wonderful hotel location too late to make it central to our journey. In early November we were the only guests and having a drink in the cozy lounge by the fire chatting about the trip highlights made it very special. Super quiet, clean, oversized rooms offering excellent value. We still talk of our fond feelings for the Tankerville arms and will visit again!

It's such a shame this once well run hotel has gone down hill. Definitely needs to be refurbished and Definitely needs more staff! Couldn't get served in the bar as the only person that seemed to be available was dealing with reception. The room was comfortable but the shower was worse than useless, as was the WiFi. Breakfast was fine and the lady who served it was friendly, the person who serviced the room did a good job. Cannot comment on the food as we were told the kitchen would close at 7! Came back to the hotel after eating elsewhere at 9.15pm to have a last drink before going to our room but the bar was shut and the shutters were down! We will visit Wooler again but will most definitely not be wasting our money on the Tankerville.

rubbish spend the money you earn else where. could be good but not,and obviously the owner doesnt give a toss but they should cos it has a great feel to the place
