Beautiful setting with excellent staff

Our stay was amazing! You get amazing service from the moment you step in the door to the moment you leave. All the staff are so attentive and always happy to help. The location is lovely which really good views all around and the golf course just tops it off nicely, it’s a real treat to stay and play at Matfen Hall.

This is a beautiful hotel set in the Northumberland countryside. Whilst the emphasis is obviously on golfing we used the hotel a a brief stopover to visit the nearby Chesters Roman Fort and the seaside town of Tynemouth. The Spa was closed during our stay but, by way of an apology, we were very kindly and unexpectedly offered a £50 daily credit for drinks and meals instead. The hotel is stunning inside and is very well maintained. We enjoyed a couple of relaxed meals in the “Keepers” restaurant attached to the Golf Club. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Only gripe is that WiFi coverage in our room was appalling - either unavailable or being continuallly disconnected.
