The Royal Hotel Cardiff

We booked a superior king (room 501). It has definitely seen better days! Mould around the bath and in the grouting,,a stained sink, sash windows painted shut ;despite inner windows that opened), a broken mini fridge and broken air con. Dirty laundry was heaped on the landing throughout our stay. We wrote an email of complaint but got a response merely saying the room is not advertised as having air con. Nothing else addressed at all!

Be very careful before you book with this hotel chain. Even though I had paid when I booked online, when I arrived at the hotel they said that I needed to pay. I did and on getting to my room and checking the paperwork I realised my error. When I showed all the paperwork to reception they agreed that there had been a double payment, but said they were not in a position to make a refund. Eight weeks later and innumerable telephone conversations with the hotel owners I still have no indication of getting a refund back having provided full documentary evidence on numerous occasions. This used to be a classy, well situated hotel. It has become a minimally staffed shadow of it's old self. A shame.

I’ve stayed with some friends a couple of days before my last visit. We noticed that the rooms were quite dirty but we were only therefor one night so it didn’t. We didn’t take any notice or make a complaint. On my second visit couple of days after we went to a graduation our room wasn’t clean but I knew what I was expecting. The staff.There are amazing. The location is perfect on the morning of our departure. My husband had lost his watch so he looked under the bed where found a used condom. We reported this to the receptionist who went straight up to the room and took a picture. He was really apologetic and put a comment and a picture on the Work WhatsApp group the response from the management just a thumbs up on my return home. I made an official complaint to what I assume is the headquarters. I had a reply apologising and offering me50% off my next day. My question would be why would I want to stay in a very clean hotel with serious hygiene issues I have tried on many occasions to contact management again but with no response Don’t book this hotel save your money
