The Blue Boar

So i’ll start with the positives because there were positives and I think it’s so important to make these heard! There were a few younger staff members on the floor who were so kind, attentive and polite- asked us how our day was etc and the food was absolutely incredible (we all had a roast except one). However, unfortunately a multitude of things let our visit down which was honestly disappointing. We arrived exactly on time for our reservation, we weren’t greeted by any means in a kind approachable or welcoming way, we got walked to our table and left immediately. We then were handed menus of the roast-only menu and again, no offer of a regular menu, and no offer of a drinks order. 25 minutes later after we had to ask to place a drinks order were these where taken. We asked for a regular menu at this point also. We were aware it was busy so gave benefit of the doubt at this point, but were struggling to see why it took nearly half an hour from arrival time to even place a drinks order. Luckily we placed our food order quite quickly after this after getting another staff member to come over again- unfortunately we then had been there an hour and still had no food, and had only had our drinks about 20 minutes. We then received someone else's order to our table which wasn’t great as it then had to get taken away again. When we asked how much longer our wait would be we got a very abrupt response which in all honesty was unprofessional to say the least. We then did receive our food less than 5 minutes later. Food, like i said, was amazing, great portion size, great taste etc- but one member of my table had no carrots on her plate so when we asked for more they came out in a side bowl which was great- however, the girl bringing them out was about to accidentally take them to the wrong table, and the staff member walking with her decided to raise his voice in a very unprofessional manner where three tables turned around to look at him. We did reassure the young girl she was doing a great job, and she shouldn’t have been spoken to that, especially not in front of guests. After the meal we ordered dessert where a member of the table then got asked if they were old enough to drink for a (what I can only assume) was a free drink for some reason by the man who raised his voice previously. Unfortunately, he said this to someone who is 30 years old and it was actually quite insulting- whether it was meant to be a joke or not to lighten the atmosphere from earlier, I couldn’t say, but it wasn’t appropriate. We got no apology for the delay, no apology for the bluntness from the man who welcomed us, and considering we chose this restaurant to celebrate a 15 year wedding anniversary with the family, it was an experience I won’t be repeating.

Authentic country pub with rooms. Good sized room and comfortable bed. Staying for work in Stratford upon Avon. Excellent pork belly for dinner and a great selection of beers. Breakfast was excellent and included in the price. Full English cooked to order. Will stay again if I am in the area.

A lovely country pub with a good choice of food and relaxing atmosphere. The Indian menu was very good and my husband enjoyed his butter chicken very much. There were also a good choice of pub classics.
