My husband and I accidentally booked a same night nonrefundable reservation at this hotel in May, 2026, thinking it was in Stratford, Ontario (we were there at the time). We immediately reached out to notify the hotel through the third party booking service we had used to book the reservation, who said they’d contact the hotel; we followed up the next day by calling the hotel directly. At that time we were told that it was a reasonable error that others have made and that we would hear back in 2 days. We never did. We have since called back more than five times, and on most of these occasions have been told we would hear back in two days. We also sent an email to the hotel manager, but didn’t receive a reply. Most recently, we were told that the g.m. could not call us because the hotel phone can’t be used to make an international call. The lack of a simple courtesy by someone in the hospitality industry is shocking. Having seen other customer service guests have experienced with this hotel, I would think twice about booking a stay at the MacDonald Alveston Manor Hotel.

We had a thoroughly disappointing experience at Macdonald Alveston Manor Hotel. Multiple basic amenities in our room failed to work properly: the air conditioning wasn't working, the safe was broken, and the shower suffered from intermittent hot water throughout our stay. What made it worse was the complete lack of evening support. When we reported these issues to the reception desk, we were dismissed with a simple response that there was no maintenance staff on-site during the evening to help us. Expecting guests to deal with uncomfortable room conditions without offering a room swap or basic workaround is unacceptable for a hotel of this tier. Very disappointing overall.

This was our first and last visit to this hotel it was 30 degrees outside and the air con didn’t work we were supplied with a fan which was very noisy and just blew hot air around the room. There was no water supplied in the room and although our friends had it in their room when we asked at reception and told them our friends have it and we didn’t we were told to buy it at the bar!!! The bar did not have the right glasses for the drink supplied ie peroni in Heineken glass, one couple ordered a bottle of wine and then were told there were no wine glasses and told to walk to the restaurant to get their own, and finally after writing down who we wanted our invoice making out to they managed to get that wrong as well at £250 pounds per night it’s a shambles. Also no fresh fruit at breakfast or decent coffee
