Avoid at all costs. I booked a so-called Executive Room. No air conditioning in the bedrooms although there was a unit installed, it doesn’t work. This wasn’t a one-off, it’s a deliberate decision by the owners. Who are an asset management company, not a hospitality business. I hadn’t realised Holiday Inn is a franchise. It looks like the whole system has been decommissioned as there was an electric heater standing in the bedroom, so I expect it’s also freezing in winter. The staff seemed embarrassed to be working there. I don’t blame them.

This hotel shouldn’t be allowed to be associated with the IHG brand. Having stayed in many IHG properties, and been a priority club member for many years, this hotel is by far the worst I’ve stayed in. I stayed in this hotel 2 years ago which was fine. However, it seems that there has been no investment since. The front lobby and bar areas and nicely renovated, the rooms are dated, stuffy and in need of renovation. Staff lie about air conditioning. When I complained about the temperature of my room and the lack of air conditioning I was told that all rooms are the same. Some Colleagues that checked in after me have been given rooms with working air conditioning. Explain that? The rooms with no air conditioning are given a fan which has no affect. It’s impossible to sleep and the room has a musty smell. I won’t be back.

I wasn't expecting much, but it's actually not terrible. I suppose I was in a standard room that has already been refurbished, but it didn't live up to their claim that I could "relax in modern, spacious rooms with thoughtful amenities". Mine was small and seemed utilitiarian - the wardrobe has been replaced with some shelves and a place to hang your clothes, which I suppose solves the problem that opening the doors would block the entrance to the bathroom but makes it seem more like a budget hotel. The shower was OK, but bizarrely the controls are at the opposite end of the cubicle from the shower head. No toilet roll holder. They don't seem to advertise aircon, but maybe you'll be lucky and find the one in your room works. Mine didn't so I opened the window, though I couldn't understand how to close it and it could be noisy with a pub just across the road. It's very strange to me that a TV in 2026 can only have SD channels and nothing in High Definition, but that's only a minor annoyance. On the other hand, the WiFi was good and no need to log in. There are two small lifts, and one was out of order for some of the time, which was not really a problem for me but might be for others. Breakfast was a decent buffet, nothing to complain about there! If I'd paid around £70 a night I'd probably be reasonably satisfied. Having paid rather more I feel it's reasonable to moan about a slightly underwhelming experience. If you have paid a lot more than I did you will probably be even more upset.
