Macdonald Alveston Manor

We booked Macdonald Alveston Manor Hotel & Spa in Stratford-upon-Avon for a three-night stay for four adults and one child. Unfortunately, the condition of our rooms was so poor that we refused to stay and left the hotel that same evening. The beautiful Tudor-style exterior and photographs gave us a completely different impression of what to expect. Our rooms were located through an extended part of the hotel which felt extremely dated, tired and run-down. The corridor leading to the rooms also had a strong smell of cannabis, which was particularly unpleasant when travelling with a young child. The cleanliness of the rooms was shocking. The carpets were dirty and stained, with food embedded in them. There was thick dust around the skirting boards, beds, pipework and light fittings, and the air-conditioning vent was covered in grime and dust. The bathroom was dated and had visible mould around the bath. The bedding was stained, and the towels that should have been white were a dingy grey. Towels had also been placed over some of the stains on the bedding. We arrived at approximately 7:15pm and, after seeing the condition of the rooms, requested a full refund and left. This meant having to find alternative accommodation late in the evening with a young child. We were equally disappointed by the reaction at reception. There seemed to be very little concern about why we felt unable to stay. When asked if we were checking out, the response was simply, “Perfect, no problem.” Thankfully, we found another hotel nearby that evening where the staff were welcoming, accommodating and able to provide rooms for the duration of our stay. Based on our experience, we could not recommend Macdonald Alveston Manor Hotel & Spa. The accommodation we were given did not reflect the beautiful photographs and description we had seen when booking. For us, the standard of cleanliness was completely unacceptable, and we were not prepared to stay there, especially with a young child.

​Attended a business event at Alveston Manor yesterday and was thoroughly impressed by Michael, who manages hotel meetings. He was extremely courteous, accommodating, and helpful from start to finish. A complete asset to the hotel—thank you, Michael!

Very poor show for almost a £1000 weekend!
