The room was clean, comfortable, and nicely furnished, and the staff were genuinely lovely throughout our stay. The bed was amazingly comfy, which would have guaranteed a great night’s sleep had there been air conditioning, with the hot summer weather the room became very warm. We were given fans, but they unfortunately just circulated warm air. The only real drawbacks were the lack of air conditioning and the fact that there are no plug sockets next to the bed, meaning we had to charge our phones on the opposite side of the room. Overall, it was a pleasant stay with just a couple of practical inconveniences.

The Macdonald Alveston is aptly named as it is truly the McDonalds of the hotel industry. We booked in the morning online. At check-in the same afternoon, we tried to add breakfast for the following morning but the price was now several pounds more expensive than the price advertised online. We were also told at reception that they had decided to switch off the air conditioning for three months during the hottest summer since 1839. We decided to cancel and were told that our booking from 4 hours ago was nonrefundable. Only after continued insistence did we eventually receive a full refund.

We recently spent a couple of days on a Spa break for our wedding anniversary. Firstly I would like to say how welcoming and friendly all the staff were. The hotel and the room was very clean and tidy. The spa treatments we had were amazing and left us totally relaxed and ready for a day sightseeing. The location of the hotel was perfect around 15 minutes stroll into the town where you will find many lovely restaurants and pubs, even a boat trip on the Avon which was lovely. The first night was spent in the hotel restaurant. The food was lovely and again the staff couldn’t have been more friendly and professional. On the second night we had a stroll into the town for a Thai meal at The Giggling Squid. I can definitely recommend that you take a look if you enjoy Thai food. The afternoon tea at the hotel was so lovely and we had breakfast at the hotel on both days which was a help yourself affair unless you wanted something else off the menu which was taken by one of the lovely waiters. I had a traditional breakfast and my wife had eggs Benedict, both were of excellent quality. I would certainly have no problem with recommending The Alvaston Manor and we are definitely intending visiting again maybe next year. Lastly I would like to thank everyone involved in our stay you were all fabulous.
