I'll list the pros and cons below:
Cons:
Reception staff clearly hate their jobs, no people/customer service skills.
The fan in the roasting hot room was broken.
There was a broken light above the bed and they hadn't cleaned up the dust or the broken glass which tiny fragments of had fallen onto the pillow below.
The toilet seat was broken.
There was glass on my pillow.
The reception staff didn't seem to care when I reported the broken light, I had to ask again when nothing had been done two hours later.
The glass on my pillow.
Pros:
The handy man was a star, very helpful, friendly and apologetic for the inconvenience.
The room was generally clean, bar the glass, the beds were comfy enough although not good for my back. The hotel was reasonably quiet.
General notes: desperately in need of fresh paintwork and a good deep clean but I expected as much from a budget hotel. It would have been perfectly fine was it not for the issue with the broken glass and the complete disinterest of the staff (except the handy man/ maintenance man who again, was brilliant)
Based on the rest of the experience we opted not to have breakfast so I can't comment on that.

The most shocking hotel I have ever stayed in!! Electricity went out at 5am no chance to shower or get ready for a conference in Birmingham!!! The hotel was overwhelmed with cheap air freshener… dark old felt unsafe!!?do not ever book here! Waiting for a refund… still no reply

We stayed here for 3 nights on a coach trip, it was ok. The hotel was clean and the staff friendly. It was very hot weather whilst we were there and they provided us with a fan in the room without us having to ask. It was very noisy with doors slamming and noisy from outside. The food was ok, usually a meat option, one night scampi and another lasagna as well as the meat option. Salad options for starters and various cakes for dessert. Breakfast choice was plentiful.
Meal times were strict with no leeway, our breakfast was at 7.45 and no earlier or later. The same with the evening meal.
There were good working lifts too.
The bar area was good with a large tv. One night there was a dj on but he finished early as England were playing that night. Another night there was a quiz which was fun.
The main downside for us is we had requested a walk in shower but our shower had an over the bath one which we really struggled with but the shower was actually good.
There was also a pleasant quiet lounge to sit in with plenty of sofas.
It was better than we were expecting to be honest.
