The Royal Hotel

Only stayed here for convenience to town hall. Knew about nightclub so took ear plugs for us all. It is a lovely building, nice staff. Food & drink was good although bit expensive. Could still hear nightclub music so didnt sleep much but it was an hour or more after people spilling out shouting, laughing, banging doors. Sat night was the worst. Music again then prob two hours of people outside again but this time a fight happened. It was horrible and frightening to hear, women screaming, men shouting. Woke us all up. Not nice for my young daughters to hear either. No police arrived either. Banging doors outside and in, tipping all the enpty bottles in bins at about 4am. Didnt sleep at all. We just wanted to get out so packed up and left at 10 and had breakfast elsewhere. Told the receptionist but apart from sorry that was it. Others were complaining about the noise and the fight too. This establishment needs to choose whether it wants to be rowdy pub and nightclub or a restaurant and hotel. It cant be both. Mattresses were thin and could feel the flat springs, pillows like concrete I nearly cancelled this hotel and went elsewhere, really wish I had. Never ever again.

We had a great stay at the Townhouse this weekend, I can only praise the young man who was on the Reception desk on Friday, he was so helpful he bent over backwards to help us with our rooms amazing, plus freindly & welcoming, also reception on Saturday was very helpful, I struggle with your stairs due to a smashed ankle so can only manage the first floor, its my second visit to the town house, The rooms are clean tidy & great to relax in have no complaints at all fab wknd 😊

Christmas lunch for 8 On arrival I thought where are the table decorations 🤔 When we were all seated they brought the cutlery over & then our meals if apeareance were any thing to go by we should of done a runner then I was really hungry & I thought my fish cake was ok but as I carried on eating it got worse over cooked & tasteless 2 of my colleagues said there mash was cold 🥶 she asked if they could heat it up but they ignored my other colleague when they returned the mash they took the other dish away to heat but as she went through the kitchen door she cursed us (with language I won't repeat) The other dishes were not up yo scratch & most left nearly half their dishes The room was extremely cold & although it's Christmas 🎄 not even a cracker in site Very dissapointed The manager did reduce the bill but the damage was done Considering they advertise Christmas lunch we were the only customers AVOID AT ALL COST
