Grand Royale London Hyde Park

Idea location short walk to the tube/bus etc. The hotel communal areas are beautiful with original stairways, original ‘theatre’ bar and lots of engravings, the frontage is stunning and welcoming. Our room, however, was tiny, cramped and hot, the air con didn’t work. The shower sprayed everywhere as shower screen too small. It was, however value for money and ok for one night. Whole place was very clean. Being in a side street hotel was reasonably quiet although our room had a very noisy extractor which we could not turn off. Staff were very attentive and polite especially the breakfast crew. Breakfast was lovely, lots of choice, very tasty, hot food was hot and there was plenty of it.

We booked two rooms at this hotel for our family, one was suppose to be a club level. After our long flight from the states, we walked .8 miles from Paddington Station with our luggage, in the heat to this hotel, to be informed rudely and unapologetically, that they had rebooked us to their "sister" hotel, the Inhabit Queens Garden. They told us that they had emailed us about the change, while we were in flight! There was no offer to transport us to this other hotel and so, we had to schlep our luggage an additional .6 miles to the new hotel. We had originally planned on taking a two day trip to Paris and return to the Grand Royale Hyde Park, but due to our lack of confidence in this hotel, we cancelled out booking right away and stayed at a different hotel all together. We have a travel agent who was on hold for hours trying to get our booking straighten out, with no response. Never going to attempt staying at this hotel ever again.

We have stayed here twice before and we were looking forward to this time but unfortunately the room we had was disgraceful, it was supposed to be a deluxe double it was a single at best the bed was so close to the curtains that you couldn't get into bed that side, the curtains were hanging off the rails so you couldn't close them properly, the headboard was disgusting, the carpets were filthy, the bathroom floor tiles were broken and moved when you walked on them. When we spoke to the receptionist about our issues they said "we are fully booked " that is not acceptable the room should never have been available in the first place.
