This was my second stay at the Sanderson in London over the past few months; both were great. The hotel is very well located and the rooms are clean, good size and well-appointed. The shower is exceptional. The gym is a good size, the breakfast has a great selection and the staff are helpful. I would happily stay here again in London - it was comfortable and easy.

Amazing service and overall experience. Especially the staff made it so special. Lay and Biswash were very kind and guided us through our tea journey. They gave the best recommendations and were very sweet.
PS: we recommend trying something new such as mixing sensha with very berry ;)

A fraud of a 5-star hotel – hugely disappointing
We booked Sanderson London for my 40th birthday because I wanted the trip to feel really special and chose what is advertised as a 5-star hotel. Unfortunately, the reality was anything but five-star.
Our first room had such an overpowering smell of damp that we had to ask to be moved. The replacement room wasn’t much better. There were stains all over the curtains surrounding the room, dirty marks across the walls and furniture, cracked and damaged flooring, broken blinds, and a faulty shower that sprayed water everywhere and appeared to have mould around it.
The following day, we were moved yet again and upgraded. While the final room was an improvement, by that point it was simply too little, too late. Spending part of a special birthday trip packing up and moving between rooms because of basic cleanliness and maintenance issues is not what anyone expects when paying for a 5-star experience.
What made the stay even more disappointing was the service. We are Accor Gold members and regularly stay within the Accor group in London and Vienna, including Hoxton, Novotel and Ibis when travelling with our children. We have always been treated extremely well. Yet somehow, at Sanderson – supposedly a 5-star property – we received the poorest service we have experienced.
We weren’t even offered our welcome drink. When we eventually asked about it, we were told to contact Accor ourselves. The manager on reception was particularly unhelpful throughout our stay and appeared to have very little understanding of either the Accor loyalty programme or the level of customer service expected at a hotel claiming five stars.
When we raised the condition of the rooms, the repeated explanation was that Sanderson is “an old hotel”. That simply isn’t an acceptable excuse. London has hundreds of beautiful, historic luxury hotels considerably older than Sanderson that still manage to maintain clean, well-kept rooms. Age does not cause stained curtains, mould, dirty walls, broken blinds or neglected flooring – lack of maintenance does.
The whole experience was incredibly disappointing, particularly as this was meant to be a special stay for my 40th birthday. I deliberately chose a 5-star hotel expecting a step up in quality and service, yet we have genuinely received better rooms and far better treatment at lower-rated Accor hotels.
If you are looking for a genuine 5-star experience in London, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Based on our stay, Sanderson is certainly not it.
