The Lismoyne Hotel

Extremely disappointing experience — proceed with caution Booking this hotel was a complete mistake. The experience was extremely stressful and disappointing, particularly given that we had contacted the hotel several times by email and also spoken with them by phone in advance to confirm our requirements. Despite all of this communication, the hotel incorrectly booked our rooms. When we arrived, we spent three hours trying to resolve the problem, repeatedly being told that the duty manager would come and speak to us and sort everything out. Despite waiting, the duty manager never came. During those three hours, we were given completely conflicting information. We were initially told that the hotel was now fully booked and that we could therefore only stay for part of our trip. We were then told that our full stay would be fine after all. We were also initially told that a refund would not be possible, only to subsequently be told that it would be. The lack of communication, organisation and basic customer service was extraordinary. Had our requirements not been clearly confirmed with the hotel beforehand, I might have understood that mistakes can happen. However, the fact that we had taken the time to confirm everything in advance makes the way this was handled particularly frustrating. I am a very experienced traveller and have stayed in hotels all over the world, but I have rarely encountered such poor customer service and such a lack of organisation. If you are booking this hotel for an important trip, or for more than one night, I would strongly recommend being extremely cautious and making sure every aspect of your booking is confirmed in writing. A deeply disappointing experience from start to finish.

Fantastic hotel tucked away from the high street but also close enough to walk to should you choose to. Room lovely and clean, all staff very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was continental and a great hot buffet. Would highly recommend. Such a lovely family run hotel.

Absolutely awful experience, recommend staying anywhere else but here. We had booked as a large group for 2 nights for a wedding we’d travelled overseas for. Upon arrival, we were told they only had our reservation for 1 night - despite us getting phone confirmation only 3 days prior, for 2 nights and all our rooms for our party. We were then told that it should be fine to sort out, and we could check in for the first night. However one of our rooms was unavailable until 5.30pm (so they were left stranded in the hotel lobby). And one of the rooms clearly hadn’t been cleaned, as there was McDonalds food left behind… There was constant confusion caused by information given us to from the on-site staff and off-site manager, who wasn’t coming in until their shift started at 6pm - despite the urgency of the situation. Initially we were told they would be able to sort out 2nd night out, then told they were fully booked out, then told they could sort it out, then told again they wouldn’t be able to offer us a room for the 2nd night. During the whole process, we were left in the hotel lobby for over 3 hours waiting & trying to sort the situation out, missing out on the pre-wedding events. There was no effort made by anyone at the hotel to provide us with a drink/snack at the bar while waiting to resolve the situation, or any assistance with looking into alternate accommodation options. Eventually, we decided to get a refund and move to a new hotel (West Court Retreat - who were absolutely INCREDIBLE, can’t recommend them enough!!), but this created more chaos, as the hotel initially told us we couldn’t get a refund, then 30seconds later said they could give us one. Overall, this was easily the worst experience at a hotel our group has ever had in the decades of travel around the world we’ve done. Additionally, we found out that the wedding venue we were at has now removed this hotel from their list of recommended hotels due to numerous complaints that other guests have had.
