Park Plaza

Disappointing for a 4-star hotel Unfortunately, we were really disappointed with our stay at Park Plaza. For a supposed 4-star hotel, we found it incredibly basic. The room lacked the facilities, amenities and finishing touches we’d expect, and there was genuinely nothing about it that made us think, “yes, this is a 4-star hotel.” We actually nearly decided not to stay, but as it was only for one night, we decided to make the best of it. The lifts were another major issue. They were honestly a joke — we genuinely waited around 15 minutes for a lift. That’s simply not acceptable in a large city-centre hotel. We also ordered room service, which was £19 for a very disappointing pizza, plus a £5 tray charge. For £24, we’d expect a considerably better standard of food. The reception experience didn’t help either. We were told we’d booked a twin room. When I said, “We haven’t booked a twin room,” the response was simply, “Yes, you have.” Erm… no, we hadn’t! She was actually looking at the wrong booking. Once this was established, you’d expect an apology, but the whole interaction came across as unnecessarily dismissive and stuck-up. Overall, we genuinely couldn’t see what made this a 4-star hotel. In our opinion, it was 3-star at best. The room was basic, the lifts were a nightmare, the room service was poor and the reception experience left a lot to be desired. We’ve stayed in plenty of hotels and don’t expect perfection, but for the price and the claimed 4-star rating, we expected considerably more. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

This was a very useful place to stay for a one night visit to the city. Clean enough and safe but wouldn’t want to stay too long

The hotel is well situated as it is directly opposite the train station. The staff are friendly and the rooms are a good size. However our room did look a little tired. The bed was uncomfortable and the water pressure in the bathroom was poor.
