The Old Golf House Hotel

The room was clean, comfortable and had recently been renovated. The staff were friendly and there was ample parking. The hotel is just outside of Huddersfield so it is rural and quiet but it is easy to get to the town, shops and retail parks. The building appears to be Victorian and is attractive. The modern extensions have been been constructed in a sympathetic way so they blend in with the original house. Good value for money. A Travelodge and Premier Inn in the same area would have been about 50% more. The communal areas of the hotel appear a little tired. For example the internal doors. Next to my room are doors and stairs down to the ground floor fire exit. However, the external fire exit door was no longer attached and was laying flat on the floor. In addition to the security risk, it mean that the wind would howl down the corridor (the hotel is rural and the grounds are open to the wind). The restaurant and bar are not available and the hotel can only offer a continental breakfast. However, it is made very clear at the time of booking and checking in that this is the case. I hope this is a temporary measure and that the hotel are renovating and recruiting to offer this in the future. As this would really enhance a stay at this hotel. I know a lot of locals thought that this hotel was permanently closed. I believe that the hotel had closed but reopened under new management, which explains some of the things I have mentioned and why the hotel seemed really empty and to some a little creepy.

Extremely disappointing stay, the hotel is run on a shoestring with only one staff member present. No bar or restaurant and the breakfast was a poor continental selection. We booked an executive room but got minimal sleep due to a drunk and loud couple arguing all night long. The hotel did offer us a different room which was cold and adequate despite the extraction fan not turning off and quite loud. The hotel furniture is dated and needs replacing. It was quite clean with decent bedding and towels provided. Noisy next to the motorway but the extra glazing stopped the road noise.

Oh my word! We didn’t even stay the night after some of the unsavoury people we saw staying there. Found out after they house the homeless and it’s very clear to see. STAY AWAY.
