Mercure White Hart

Booked two nights bed and breakfast in a premium priced accessible suite in this 4 star hotel. Access to the room from reception was via a dimly lit exterior courtyard over broken and patched multi-level crazy paving followed by a dangerous level changing path leading to the dimly lit car park, even an able bodies person could have easily tripped. The apartment building lobby was grubby with a 24 inch stain of something on the tiles outside our door. The apartment smelt of drains, not a lot but you could definitely smell something. The apartment appeared recently finished but very surprisingly the bed was a very small 4'6 bed. Accessibity around the bed was 18 inches at its narrowest so not ideal for a wheelchair or walker. The bathroom was a super large wetroom with a shower head in one corner; the controls on the shower valve were not visibly marked; there were no grab rails or hooks/shelves for soaps, towels, robes etc, near the shower. Exiting the shower you had to cross several feet of slippery tiles with no support, one tiny bath mat assisted for the first step; when I picked the mat up after use it was filthy gray from the unclean shower floor. Whilst the WC was fully quipped for a left hand transfer there wasnt a toilet roll holder or even a hook for your toilet bag, all these type of things had to go on the floor, most ill thought-out. We had a basic lunch in the lovely little courtyard and were told there would be no food this eveing as they had a quiz in the hotel that night but we could still get drinks. We went out for dinner and returned to the courtyard for post dinner drinks. The table we had used for lunch still had our glasse and food plate there 6 hours later. the evening for post dinner drinks The room was not serviced during our stay so we were stuck with dripping towels and mats from the dysfunctional wet room. We arrived in a conference room where breakfast was available; we asked what was available and was told it was just the buffet. had some cold scarambled eggs and complained to reception who offered to refund the breakfast. Generally the whole experience was not a Mercure level experience and certainly not 4 star, the hotel is best described as poorly managed and grubby, just look at the ceiling of the main portico,that tells you what to expect.

Not 4 star accomodation more like 2 star. Had a single room which smelt of damp and drains. Carpet was filthy, wooden window was rotten and couldn't shut. Black marks around the walls and ceiling. Building was old with uneven creaking floors, no lift and room was tiny, bathroom had no ventilation or window. Massively overpriced for such poor accommodation.

We stayed in the hotel apartments for one night on a stopover with an handy onsite car park, especially given its position right in the centre of Salisbury, close to the cathedral. Our apartment was lovely and spacious and extremely well finished, great shower with robes and slippers. One of the best hotel beds I’ve ever slept in. The hotel has been extended over time and some of the older parts are a little tired but there is a nice relaxed atmosphere and the staff are friendly and helpful. There is a lovely cool courtyard garden where you can grab a drink from the bar. Breakfast is buffet style with a great choice and all very fresh. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
