FAIRBANKS PRINCESS HOTEL

Don’t plan to relax. The room was fine. The housekeeping was not. We were on the tail end of a two week Alaskan tour filled with early mornings and late evenings when we landed at this beautiful riverside hotel. We were thrilled that we finally had the opportunity to sleep in and check out at 11am. We promptly displayed our “do not disturb” sign and went to sleep. Despite this, we were awakened abruptly around 7am by housekeeping knocking no fewer than a dozen times. They came again around 10-sign still on the door. They wanted to know when we were leaving citing they needed to clean the room. I beg your finest pardon?! Disappointed isn’t the right word. Outraged was more fitting. I tried to tell her we hadn’t slept in days. She doubled down and said “yes but we need to know when you’re leaving so we can clean”. I told her we would be checking out by 11 as we were instructed. I also spoke to the front desk and the manager, Angie, who apologized and said she doesn’t oversee housekeeping - and she didn’t know why they do that. No recourse was provided. Fully exhausted, went on about our day and got on a red eye flight back home for yet another sleepless night. I couldn’t believe it. This has never happened to me with any other lodging experience. It’s a hard pass for me.

The room was large enough to move around and some what unpack your suitcase. The restaurant deck overlooks the river which was vey scenic. The restaurant service for breakfast was a bit slow as they seemed to be understaffed. Again, no Wi-Fi in the room, no small refrigerator, no fitness room whatsoever.

It is very apparent this lodge is used during a limited time. Dated interior throughout. The rooms are dark, dingy and smell. No mattress protector- only a fitted sheet that was too small for the bed. Dinning service : Serve Safe Training needs to be followed !!! The dinner food was absolutely horrible we returned each item ordered to have it warmed and it was over priced. Breakfast was even worse, the buffet food was put onto your plate for you, tables were dirty, my silverware and napkin was dirty. Staff were wearing gloves- some food safe- some appeared not to be. Staff touched everything wearing same gloves, coffee cup brought to us wearing the same glove worn to clean tables and same staff walked away from cleaning tables to put bread into the toaster wearing the same gloves !!!! Tables were “swiped” with cleaning cloth, chair were never cleaned. This portion of our Princess cruise was terrible. It seemed as though we had been dropped off and forgotten. Princess Cruise to Alaska has been in the news regarding virus …. I can see why.
