Super 8 Sitka

We stayed here because we arrived late and our booked hotel was out of room and took us here because it was a sister hotel with availability. The hotel was not very nice despite the $293 price. The man at the front desk was not friendly. Breakfast was very minimal. Will not stay here again.

This used to be a super8 motel but is being refurbished, colour scheme brown and dated. Reception area small and chaotic at times. Check in was slow and our rooms were not ready even though it was late afternoon. However, we were very grateful for the member of staff who sorted out their shuttle to take us to a restaurant when we had extremely heavy rain! Breakfast is a serve yourself in reception which is poor and very untidy. The bedrooms are fine, large with overbath showers(plenty of hot water). Limited lighting in the bedroom and some of the sockets didn't work. Lighting was fine in the bathroom, which also had a hairdryer.

The room was clean, the beds comfortable, and with the fan on, road noise was tolerable. The sign in front of the motel was torn up but had the shape of a Super 8 motel chain, but no indication of its new name. The lobby was under construction with the motel entrance facing a traffic circle. On the walk to our room, we passed a non-working soft drink machine, uninstalled washer-dryer combo, and a non-functioning ice machine. The room had DIRECT TV which had limited channels and problems when it rained - 280 days out of the year. Later on I asked the front desk person ( an older women with no willingness to help) where I could get a soda, and she referred me to the market 3 blocks away. I asked when the soda machine would be fixed, and was told, "who knows". This was $197/night. We stayed there 4 nights and sometimes a very pleasant, younger woman greeted us and offered to help about any item we wished. She couldn’t get any of the out-of-order items fixed, but she tried. She offered us rides and help with the usually non-functional DirectTV. It rains a lot, so cable TV is desperately needed. The WiFi in the room was average at best and usually not working.
