Westmark Inn Skagway

Apparently this place is on the historic register. It certainly is not new and modern yet it has any new and modern conveniences you might want....TV, nice shower (did drain a bit slowly), comfy bed, etc. Rooms are not modern sized, but not totally cramped either. Breakfast buffet was delicious....a bit pricey but well worth it to me. Tip: they have rooms with king sized beds or 2 doubles so book accordingly. My traveling partner and I booked through Expedia and he unfortunately go the room with 2 doubles while I was lucky enough at 6'6" to get a King room. Perhaps book directly on the phone if you want a King?

Interesting hotel. Two full size beds. No WiFi unless you’re near the front desk. No desk. No desk chair. Bed was short and lumpy. The wheelchair was too narrow. Like the bed it must have been meant for midgets No fridge. No microwave. No clock. No alarm. No working phone. There was no electrical outlet at the nightstand. To plug in my CPAP we had to pull out one of the beds to get to an electrical outlet on the wall (very inconvenient). An excursion list was requested at the front desk and after several minutes we were told the copy machine was out of paper. The restaurant served good food, but it was very over-priced. For breakfast they only had a buffet - at $25.00 per person. At least eight in our group (ten with us) said forget it - we will not pay that high price for coffee and a muffin.

The room we stayed in was fine, not opulent but clean and functional. This is Alaska and these places are only open for 4-5 months of the year. They don’t build a super fancy hotel that doesn’t even have occupancy for less than one half of a year. The breakfast buffet was the best of any of the Holland America hotels that we stayed in, the service was excellent. The front desk was very helpful and attentive. There are many activities to do in Skagway depending on what you want and your fitness level. The Holland America Skagway Inn is a great place to stay if you are in Skagway!
