Austin Hotel & Convention Center

I went for a body building show.. it was right at the event center and the hotel was walking distance to bath houses and shopping.

I’ve stayed in some questionable places, but this one managed to lower the bar to a level I didn’t know existed. After checking in, the largest roach I’ve ever seen in my life came sprinting across the floor and disappeared under my bed, apparently having already checked in and claimed its room. I requested another room and was moved to Room #2. The AC was set as cold as possible, yet the room was only cool enough to reduce the sweating from “profuse” to “manageable.” As an added bonus, the previous guest’s wet towels were still hanging in the shower. Apparently housekeeping considers that part of the amenities. Night #2 was the highlight. At approximately 4:00 AM, I woke up with a roach crawling on me while I was in bed. At that point, I decided the hotel and I had spent enough quality time together. I packed my bags and prepared to leave early, cutting my trip short because apparently getting a room without insect roommates was too much to ask. I headed to the shower for one last attempt at civilization. There was a roach in the shower. By then, I was fairly certain the roaches were having a better stay than I was. The restaurant wasn’t much better. While waiting for maintenance to look at the AC in Room #2, I went to get a snack. After sitting there for 31 minutes waiting for a waitress, I finally walked to the register and asked if I could order. I was told the cooks stopped taking orders at 10:00 PM. It was 9:54 PM. Apparently, the kitchen operates in a different time zone. By the end of my stay, I had encountered roaches in the bedroom and shower, leftover wet towels, an AC that couldn’t cool the room, and a restaurant that stopped serving food six minutes before it actually stopped serving food. Less than impressed is putting it mildly. I only wish there were a single thing about my stay that I could say was enjoyable. Sadly, I’ve searched extensively and have yet to locate one. There really aren’t enough words to explain just how impressively far below the bar this “hotel” manages to fall. Calling it a hotel seems incredibly optimistic. If the rating scale is 1–5, I’d give it a negative 9. Yes, negative. I didn’t even know that was an option until I stayed here. The only thing this place exceeded expectations in was finding new and creative ways to make me regret checking in. Truly an unforgettable experience — just not in the way anyone would want. If your goal is to relax, sleep comfortably, stay cool, avoid insects, or eat something before the kitchen closes six minutes before it’s supposed to, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Negative 9 out of 5. Would not recommend. Would not return. Would actively warn the roaches about this place.

Highly recommend. Excellent location, shuttle if needed, everything is in walking distance. Clean rooms and great customer service. Breakfast was hot and many varieties.
