AMERICAS BEST VALUE INN

Although the USA Interstate highway system has provided amazing services to travelers it is also so incredibly sad how it has sucked the finances and economic structures out of small towns it has forced us to by-pass on our journeys. Blythe is one of these towns and this RED ROOF INN has certainly seen better days. I travel mostly east of the Mississippi and RED ROOF INNS have gone through a lot of rebranding and investment for their clients there. Sadly, this particular franchise has been ridden hard in the desert and put away wet. The curb appeal is considerably lacking, as it is for most of the other budget motel chains in this town. But being received in a RECEPTION area which has an overpowering food smell is not an expected or welcoming sign. The room (Rm.131), although clean, has re-purposed well-used old furniture and finishings which are just plain tacky. On the POSITIVE side, the mattress is comfortable and the HVAC wall unit was remarkably quiet. HOWEVER....there was a weird and annoying sound coming from the walls by the bathroom ALL NIGHT which sounded like a washing machine. If you need to stop for the night this is definitely a budget-level motel which does not live up to my usual experiences with the RED ROOF franchise.

What to say? This place was clean and we didn't feel unsafe. It's a very old property which needs lots of upgrading (maybe just paint?) and maintenance. To be fair, our plumbing worked and the beds were very firm, even hard--but better than too soft. The A/C struggled greatly to keep up with the task of keeping the room down to the low 70's--too warm for sleeping--and this was in mid-December. The surrounding area seemed a little bit questionable, so we brought everything in from the car overnight. The upside? The price. We are grateful for the low price.

Ugly customer service! Also, our beds were not clean. Appears as though sheets were not changed; there were stray hairs on the pillow cases and dirt and hairs on the fitted sheets. Night staff was very rude and no helpful…
