Fanny's

Booked a reservation here for one night and we were really excited to try something a little different. Unfortunately, our experience was very similar to the most recent review which we wish we would have seen before booking. Like the last couple we arrived to a note on the door letting us know to pick any room with an open door. There was no one working at the property at all or to greet us. When we got to our room we planned to quickly put our things away and then meet some friends for a dinner but when we looked for a way to lock our bedroom door there was no key. We called the listed number and waited over an hour to hear anything. When she did call back she assured us everything would be fine if we just shut our door. What? She told us it was her house and there was nothing to worry about. Both of us traveled with work computers, iPads, golf clubs and had jewelry that we were not comfortable leaving in an unlocked room next to 3 other rooms with people we did not know and a wide open front door with no one supervising the house. We were also told “I will try not to lock you out” when asked if we’d ever be given a key to the main house. I’ve never heard of having to let my accommodation know what time I’m planning on returning at night. We immediately asked to cancel our reservation. Had not been in the room for more than 2 hours and used nothing and Deanna refused flat out. Currently working with the booking site to see if we can remedy the situation but definitely no help coming from Fanny’s side. Maybe if this issue had been very clear in the booking info people could be on board with it- but with no warning of something that in all honesty is an obvious need these days- this seems like a HUGE problem.

My girlfriend and I came to Calistoga for a weekend for a wedding and figured this would be acceptable for a weekend where we would probably be on the run most of the time and didn’t necessarily need a hotel. At check in, if you can call it that, you are instructed by a sign to go upstairs and pick your room. The only employee present was a cleaning lady, and she wasn’t able to answer any questions but said maybe the owner would be there later. We were immediately uneasy about the situation and the place. After picking our room we immediately noticed blood on the pillow case and also that we were unable to even lock the door to our room. We called the number for the property multiple times and left multiple messages which all went unanswered. We decided we would shower for the reception dinner and maybe stay the first night and try to negotiate a refund for the next night. My girlfriend then tried to take a shower but was unable to get hot water. We booked another hotel immediately and left thinking there was no way we could stay there and that surely the owner would work with us to make things right. Only after three hours and having submitted an inquiry to the booking website about being refunded due to the conditions was I finally contacted by the owner. The conversation boiled down to her saying there is hot water and she would have the pillowcase changed, and that I was the unreasonable one bringing up concerns about the security of mine and my girlfriends possessions. I went back the next morning to try to convince her that customer satisfaction should be a concern of hers and was greeted by two loudly barking dogs. The conversation went nowhere and I left. So if you’re willing to accept any of these things on their own, you could maybe generously give it a 2/5. My experience however, 1/5 is being generous. Also, don’t make the same mistake as me and not notice how long it’s been since it last received a review period. Just my experience, hopefully people will avoid something similar by having read this.

We were the only guests as it is the off season but we had a great time!! The house is very beautiful and well decorated. The bedroom was very comfortable and even had the same box fan we have at home!! Deanna was great and the breakfast was amazing!! Can't wait to go back!!
