West Sonoma Inn & spa

There's not a lot of options for places to stay in Guerneville, but this one had a professional looking website with nice photos (that may or may not be AI influenced), and the quality and options of rooms looked good for the price. First, what went well. The Inn was easy to find, and the check-in process ok. It's a small-time operation with just one person at the desk, who was able to answer our questions and get us checked in quickly. Our room's furniture, amenities, etc. matched the photos on the website, and everything was clean. The beds were comfortable, and the WiFi was fast enough for streaming videos. Everything in the room worked. Walking distance to all the restaurants and bars, but far enough away that you don't hear any of the partying noise. Now for the "fair warning" part. Nothing terrible, just some things could have been better. I generally got the feeling that there was maybe a change of ownership as many of the photos showed a more developed and cared for property. Either that, or maybe AI was used to make the photos? 1) On the website and on the sign in front of the Inn, it says there is a wine bar with food and live music. There isn't. I want to say that when we were shopping it said that these things were already available, but the website now says "coming soon". But it is all over the website like it's actually there. This was disappointing, as it's one of the reasons we stayed there. 2) The common areas do not match the photos. For example, there is a courtyard photo showing a cute reading area with a fire. IRL, the courtyard is empty. Website shows hammocks outside, and generally welcoming areas, but IRL they weren't there. 3) The room was very dark, even with the shades open. Nothing like the photos. 4) Minor repair issues weren't taken care of. The blinds on one of the windows didn't work. The door to the balcony had a broken doorknob. We were told someone would take care of it, but it didn't happen. 5) The bath products (soap, shampoo, etc.) were OK, but I would have expected something nicer for the price. Motel 6 level. The shower had a curtain with no magnets on the bottom, so it would wrap around you while showering. 6) The microwave was impossible to figure out how to use. Multiple dials and no instructions. 7) Parking is somewhat limited. 8) The pool area has cracked or missing tiles, broken furniture, and the water is very cold. 9) I didn't see anywhere to get ice, but maybe I didn't look hard enough. 10) The "spa" building looked sketchy, more like an afterthought converted storage area, so we didn't book anything. So ultimately, we had a good stay with no significant problems, but we were disappointed as we expected a better property with actual amenities for the price.

If you're searching for a peaceful retreat that doesn't sacrifice warmth or character, look no further. My 2 year old toddler, dog, and all felt genuinely welcomed here from the moment we arrived. This isn't a bustling resort with endless amenities fighting for your attention; it's something better: flexible, unhurried, and freeing. Naveen at the front desk was an absolute gem. No matter what I needed, he came through with a smile and real attentiveness, the kind of hospitality that's rare and memorable. Our King Superior Suite had a stunning view of the vineyard, and the patio hot tub was an unexpected delight, just truly unlike anything we'd experienced before. The pool isn't heated, which takes a moment to adjust to, but on a warm day it's perfectly refreshing and far more inviting than the nearby river! I also booked a spa treatment through the front desk, and my masseuse Dorothy was wonderful. She has a calming, knowledgeable presence and a genuine connection to the natural energy of the space. Her body massage left me completely restored. Everything in town is walkable, which made the stay feel even more effortless. Armstrong Redwoods is less than a 10 minute drive with great easy hiking trails. A truly magical first visit for our family. We'll be back.

We stayed here while attending a wedding across the street at Dawn Ranch. So many issues affecting our satisfaction, comfort and overall experience we had. * The ceiling is half painted in one color and half painted in another. Obvious recent patching done to the ceiling. Patching was done poorly, and the paint cover up was worse (picture attached). * It was a hot day, attempted to close the blinds. 2 of 3 blinds would not close. Frustrating. Managed to get only 1 down half mast. * There were cups wrapped in plastic next to sink. There was a spider INSIDE of the plastic wrap. It was revolting. (picture attached) * The tub was not clean (picture attached) * Vanity looked new but top drawer would not open and close. The cabinet drawers were not aligned and unstable. Further, the insides of the drawers were already soiled and stained. * No drawers for clothes. Where do we put our T-shirts? Underwear? Shorts? Pajamas? Lived out of suitcase. * No battery in our smoke detector. just a dead smoke detector on the ceiling. * No soap dish next to the sink. All of these, individually experienced, might have been trivial. However, collectively, they add up to an experience of being in a cheap motel. These were not the major issues. The three major issues we had were the flooring, the musty odor in the room and the dirty bathtub. * Floor was dirty. My wife took a picture of her socks after wearing them for under an hour. They were white socks and the feet were BLACK. (picture attached - this is not altered or edited in any way). * Musty smell. Like it had not been aired out in some time. * The bathtub was dirty, just unacceptable. Unfortunately, there is more but you get the picture. Caveat Emptor.
