Historic National Hotel & Restaurant

What a fabulous place! So much character, it takes you back to the gold rush era but with modern conveniences of an en-suite shower room and air conditioning. We stayed in Room 2 which is quite spacious and very comfortable and looks over the balcony and the main street. Everything has been carefully and faithfully restored. Unfortunately we only stayed one night and didn't have the chance to try the restaurant or saloon bar but both look very characterful. The hotel doesn't offer breakfast but they do put coffee, yoghurt and fruit in the hall in the morning for you to help yourself. There is also a very good diner next door where we enjoyed a hearty breakfast with quite a few locals (always a good sign). Jamestown itself is well worth a visit, so much character and history and if you have time to stay I thoroughly recommend the National Hotel. It makes a great stop on your way to or from Yosemite or the Eastern Sierras. I just wish we could have stayed longer. I would definitely go back.

This place takes you back in time (e.g. historic bar, restaurant and rooms) but won't suit those who prefer the conveniences of modern hotels/motels. It is conveniently located in terms of travelling to/ from Yosemite NP and probably is cheaper than places nearer the park. I would definitely stay here again.

We had a three night reservation but got into town a day early. They were able to get us into room 11. Big bath, smaller room. Really nice though. We moved the next day to Room 3 which was our original choice. It's a big room and we loved it. The bath was smaller but you don't spend much time in there anyway. Edie is the owner and she's a very kind person. The manager, Mary is so professional and they both dress that way each day. Rhonda was our bartender and she had several personal stories about the resident ghosts: Flo, Jack and Elizabeth. Flo visited our first night in room 3 by turning on the bedside light when we were both in bed. She also closed the bathroom door on me. This is the place to stay is your in the area of Jamestown.
