Scripps Inn La Jolla Cove

First time staying at the Scripps Inn, what a quaint little inn, right on the coast. We are locals from Escondido and decided to celebrate our 36th anniversary on the coast to escape the heat. We had nice 2-bedroom suite with a great view of the ocean. Marissa at the front desk was great, very friendly, providing suggestions for dinner & breakfast the next morning. Our suite was nice, flooring showed its age, but the rest was of the place was good. Small kitchenette adequately stocked with items to prepare and eat small meals if needed was unexpected. Nice to have a keurig coffeemaker with supplies provided. The were 3 separate mini split AC units to easily cool the rooms. Parking a little tricky, but adequate, believe there is a space for each room, but no more. The place is quiet, except for the occasional service truck or seagull screaming! We’ll definitely be back

My husband and I have stayed at the Scripps Inn often over the past 20 years. However, it has been awhile since our last stay due to not being able to get a room on our last minute trips, so we were very excited to be able to secure a reservation for a recent trip. Unfortunately, we were both disappointed that there has been little to nothing done to refresh or update the rooms. The furnishing, decor, window coverings, etc. have not changed, and they look like it. The location is amazing, but this was our last stay. There are other properties that are better maintained or vacation rentals that offer more amenities and a more updated experience.

Our stay at Scripps Inn was wonderful! The location is unbeatable—directly across from the ocean and within easy walking distance of so many great restaurants and attractions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, the tide pools, and The Cave Store. Having on-site parking was a huge bonus, and at $20 per night it was well worth the convenience of parking just steps from our room. The staff (specifically Maritza) was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating, making us feel welcome throughout our stay. The only real drawbacks were related to the building itself. We stayed on the ground floor, and noise from the room above was very noticeable. Even normal walking could be heard clearly, and footsteps and doors closing carried through the ceiling enough to disturb our sleep. We later had different guests above us and experienced the same thing, so it seems to be more of a sound insulation issue than inconsiderate guests. Another inconvenience was the lack of electrical outlets. There were only two outlets in the main room, and half of one didn’t work. We ended up using the third outlet in the bathroom to charge our cell phones. There were also no outlets near the bed, which was inconvenient since it’s nice to keep your phone plugged in and within reach overnight. The rooms was charmingly antiquated. The mini refrigerator also leaked water during our stay. It appeared the small freezer compartment had accumulated enough frost that it likely just needed to be defrosted, so it seemed more like a maintenance issue than a broken appliance. We also noticed a few small bugs in the room during our stay. Given the oceanfront location and coastal humidity, this may simply be part of the environment, but it’s something future guests should be aware of. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely stay here again. Next time, we’d request a top-floor room to minimize the noise from above.
