We stayed here for 3 nights at the start of August, in a family room with two doubles. Room was nicely appointed and had a nice balcony overlooking the pool and the Hollywood Hills in the distance. Staff were friendly and attentive at every point of our experience, from the guys on the front desk to the waiters and bar tenders. Really good levels of service. Pool area was really clean and lovely, with a small bar offering food, drinks etc. Attendants were on the front foot with securing sunbeds and clearing up. Really nice vibe throughout. We had two meals in the restaurant and the food was really good, whilst not being that overpriced (as per most of our USA experience!). The hotel is also located very closely to Universal, and offers an hourly free 'trolley service' which is really handy (though not if you miss it like we did on the way back!). We mainly got Ubers to sightsee other parts of LA. The Hollywood walk of fame is only a $20 uber ride away, as is the metro which can take you around at a fraction of the price if you are prepared to travel for longer. I would definitely consider staying here again as it is really lovely.

We visited Vegas and L.A as our summer vacation and we had high expectations of this hotel. The pool area and general feel of the place were fantastic. It was really clean and smelled divine. Staff on the whole were an asset to the place and the trolley bus service to and from Universal was a real bonus. What prevents me for giving it 5 stars is that on our penultimate day a member of housekeeping came into our room whilst we were out and took our wet swimwear off the balcony and placed them on our bed. We were left with a note saying that placing clothing on the balcony ruins the aesthetic of the hotel and that we should use the dryer in the laundry room. I would understand if the clothes had been hanging over the balcony but they were barely visible from the car park below due to our view being obstructed by a tree. We were also overcharged on our final bill. This was in relation to the L.A worker fee (not sure if that’s the correct name for it.) I challenged this and said we were told it would be a certain amount by Virgin holidays, to which the lady on reception said that they probably wouldn’t know about it. Thankfully Virgin contacted the hotel on our behalf and the hotel have agreed to reimburse the difference that we were overcharged. All sorted in the end but it did leave a bad taste in our mouth.

The Garland was the perfect hotel for what we needed during our 2-night stay. We previously stayed here in 2018 and it was just as nice as we remembered it. The location is great as it is not in the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, but it is easy to access the city via public transport. The hotel's free shuttle runs every hour and transports you to Universal Studios, CityWalk or the nearby metro. Alternatively, the metro is approximately 10 minutes to walk to, which gives you direct access to Hollywood and Downtown LA. In the immediate area, you can also find a large supermarket (Ralph's) and other shops/cafes, like Starbucks. The hotel has a lovely atmosphere with a nice pool and plenty of places to eat. The rooms are comfortable, modern and not too noisy. The hotel is also very clean. Overall, I would recommend The Garland.
