Holiday Inn Express Manhattan Beach

Absolute nightmare experience. Arrived at 10:00 AM, were told to come back at 12:30 PM, then delayed until 1:00 PM. When we showed up, they tried to extort $20/hour for early check-in. When we agreed to pay, they lied and said they were overbooked and tried to push us to a different hotel. After a massive argument, we finally got our confirmed room at 2:30 PM. They ruined our day with these sketchy tactics. Do not stay here!

This hotel has the most uncomfortable beds. I thought I was sleeping on the box springs, but it is indeed a mattress with springs. It is metal, so it pops and dings as you move. People were yelling at 1:30 am and the front desk did nothing. They said “don’t worry, it is nothing wrong”. I decided to read the reviews on this place and noticed that they had a habit of charging people for dirty towels. Well, when I took a shower, guess what, the towel had 3 large dirty spots and one small black stain. I took the towel to the office and showed him the condition of the towel and he just went and got another towel and handed it to me and told me to just leave it on the floor in the bathroom. I decided to leave it on the cleaning cart, so that way they could not try to say that I stained it and try to charge me. We put the “Make up room” tag on the door, two days in a row. First day we came back and it was turned around to “Do not disturb “. I thought that we had somehow put it on wrong. There was a clean wash rag and hand towel left on the counter and the table had been moved, but nothing else. Bed not made and dirty towels left on floor, no coffee or cups left, but someone was obviously in the room. The next day, I made sure the “Make up room” was on the right side and turned down the ac. Came back, and again, the sign was turned around. Someone had been in the room, as the table was moved and the ac had been changed. I went to the front desk and he loaded me up with clean towels, cups, coffee, trash bags (as the only one in the room was full after 3 days), we emptied our own trash, and told me not to put any tag on the door as someone might have changed it. I said, but someone was in the room, so they could have at least put some coffee or taken the dirty towels. The front desk was not concerned and did not apologized or anything, just loaded me up with all the stuff I needed. The location is good and pretty clean, the pool was roped off with yellow tape all four days, the toilet ran the entire time, the breakfast was dismal, and the beds are awful. I would not recommend staying here, and I will not stay here again. Could not upload the pictures of the items as the hotel website did not allow.

All of the staff I interacted with were kind, check in and out were quick and easy, there was free breakfast, and the room (family suite) was huge and clean. We are a family of 6 (3 teens and a toddler) and the room fit us all comfortably. The pool was nice with plenty of shade and seating. Great location, just a few minute drive from the beach. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again for a trip to Manhattan Beach.
