Best Western Plus Newport Beach Inn

Let me encourage you, traveler, to stay anywhere other than this hotel. While a hotel in name, it is a rundown motel in vibes. I stayed over the weekend with a corporate group and we all had comparably poor experiences. Comically poor. This hotel is consistently disappointing. Here are some details to illustrate the uninviting, unsatisfactory, unsanitary, and comprehensively non-premium experience: - The exterior looks worrying, and the interiors match - The rooms smell abrasively, cloyingly of a cheap air freshener - The room floors are uninspired faux wood and are, suspiciously, slightly sticky - The mattress/mattress cover and pillows are so lumpy. It is hard to convey to you how lumpy. Unforgivably lumpy. - There were only opaque curtains, nothing sheer despite many wanting privacy from the back lot without blocking all light - The sink faucet is so shallow and stubby that your hands run into the back of the sink when you wash them, and you get water everywhere - The TV has almost no readily available free options (and those have ads), instead you are invited to log in with your own personal streaming subscription service. Traveler, I was appalled. - There was a massive dustbunny of swept up dirt in the corner of the stairwell just outside the lobby - There was rarely anyone in the lobby. I stood in the lobby and CALLED THE HOTEL to confirm that I was checking out. Someone answered and confirmed I was checked out…hardly saw anyone working at this hotel. - The parking spaces are tediously small and tight - Individual room details - One loop of the shower curtain was torn and hanging free; a tattered, old injury - The floor lamp flickered - There was a keurig-style coffee maker in the room but my room had no cups - There was a smart mirror installed in the bathroom but it didn’t work, the illumination was broken - There was a mini-fridge but my mini fridge had old food left by the previous tenant. It smelled…very old. - One co-worker had hair from the previous tenant in the drain. HAIR. I think you get it. We couldn't wait to leave.

We came into town with a 5 year old who did not sleep on the plane. We requested an early check in and was told it wasn't available, even for an extra charge. The front desk was very rude and unapologetic. When we went to check in at 3:00, they said our room still was not ready. We waited another hour to check in and there were 3 boxes of trash by our door and the sheets had not been changed and were dirty. There was no fitted sheet on one of the beds and the floor was sticky. We complained and was told by the front desk "the housekeepers said it is clean". We insisted that someone check it again and the trash was removed and sheets were changed, although the floor was sticky with crumbs and dirt that stuck to your feet if you dared walk without shoes. The location was perfect! The hotel has a few issues. Check in was at 3 but our room was not ready till almost 5 then the room door locks were temperamental at best. Sometimes they worked and somethimes you had to try over and over just to get in your room. So that wasn't the best. And finally the bathroom sink facet, the water was a trickle. We didn’t notice it until we came back much later that night, we were only there overnight for a memorial service and it wasn’t worth calling that late to the front desk. We told them at checkout about the problem, so hopefully they fixed it! I do feel the price was a bit high for what we got. But Other than that the staff were all very friendly and helpful!
