Chantico Inn

My boyfriend and I booked two nights here for a wedding. Prior to arriving, we were sent confirmation for two rooms which was confusing because we’d only booked one. After downloading the required app, we did not have room keys for either room. We called the on call number at which point we were told the app didn’t work and that the key was under the mat. Having the keys left under the mat does not instill a sense of safety (especially because they were very visible). Immediately upon arriving in the room, the lack of cleanliness was apparent. There were strands of hair from numerous previous guests on pillows, sheets, chairs, and towels. The chairs and bedding were stained. The broken hot tub had a family of spiders in it and we both had several mosquito bites within 30 minutes of being there. The sink faucet, dresser, and front gate were all broken. We again contacted the on call number and were told the only option was to move to a different room for the night and then move to a third room the following day. At this point we had no desire to stay at this property and elected to leave. We sent the manager a text immediately and were promised we would be contacted the next day. We were not and had to call her. The manager stated that “these things happen” which is a truly unacceptable stance. We were told that this property “doesn’t do” refunds and that they couldn’t do anything for us because we had refused a different room. At this point the only solution we were given was to stay at a different property in a different town - which isn’t a solution. At no point did anyone apologize for the state of our room or take any accountability. At our last communication we were told that the person above the manager would contact us - we have not heard from anyone since.

We got locked out of our room when we returned from grocery shopping. Unfortunately, that was only one of several problems. The room we were given had multiple issues: the Jacuzzi was out of service, the sink was clogged, and even the bed sheets were damp. Overall, the room was poorly maintained and definitely not in acceptable condition for guests. Very disappointing experience.

We had an excellent stay at the Chantico Inn in Ojai. The hotel is very pleasant, perfectly maintained, and offers very beautiful facilities. We particularly enjoyed the pool, the hot tub, as well as the outdoor areas, which are conducive to relaxation after a day of exploring the region. The room was comfortable, clean, and well-equipped, and the general atmosphere of the establishment is calm and welcoming. The staff was always friendly and helpful, which made our stay even more pleasant. A big thank you to the whole team for their welcome and professionalism. We will keep a very good memory of our stay and will return with great pleasure during a future visit to Ojai!
