Our experience at the Nob Hill Hotel was, unfortunately, one of the worst hotel stays we’ve had.
Within minutes of checking into our room, it became clear that it had not been cleaned or maintained to an acceptable standard. The bathroom door was covered in brown splatters beside the toilet, the shower was visibly dirty with apparent mould, and the bathroom had a strong damp, mouldy smell. The toilet cistern was broken, leaving exposed sharp porcelain edges, and the room lights repeatedly flickered.
The most alarming issue was the bathroom fire sprinkler, which appeared to have been obstructed with what looked like paper towel or toilet paper. Seeing what appeared to be a tampered fire safety device was deeply concerning and immediately undermined our confidence in the property’s maintenance and safety standards.
To make matters worse, the walls offered virtually no sound insulation. We could clearly hear guests in the adjoining room having a normal conversation, leaving us with little privacy or comfort.
We photographed all of these issues immediately after check-in and showed the images to reception. We asked to speak with a manager but were told the manager was out of town and that nobody else was available to assist. No alternative room was offered, no meaningful attempt was made to resolve the situation, and we were left with no practical option but to find accommodation elsewhere.
Despite being unable to use the room because of its condition, we were still charged the full cost of the first night’s stay. We were refunded only for the unused nights of our booking.
Hotels don’t have to be luxurious, but they should be clean, safe and willing to address legitimate concerns when they arise. In our experience, the Nob Hill Hotel failed on all three counts. Based on our experience, I would not stay here again and cannot recommend it to others.

Hotel is average, very small rooms and a very basic breakfast; more can be done.
Unfortunately, the area is not nice because as soon as you leave the hotel, it is full of drug users and homeless people, and in the evening we did not feel safe going out, a real shame because we wanted to see San Francisco at night and it was not possible.

Would not recommend this place. My first room, 205, had a bad electrical connection. They pulled the nightstand and headboard off the wall, was gross. Btw this room also had Chinese food in the mini fridge on check in. Wasn’t mine though. Yuck.
Moved to room 402 and that one had stained sheets, one night light didn’t work, the shelf / open closet was crooked, and the shower drain had excessive calcification. Decent water pressure but that’s it.
The gym has a total of one ok treadmill, one cheap and not great elliptical, and a very old set of bow flex weights that work… but the weight bench is unsafe and missing screws from the back rest.
Continental breakfast is just toast/bagels and pastries, some cereals. No hot eggs or bacon or anything. Coffee is meh, but it’s available 24/7.
There’s more I could complain about but overall this property feels neglected. Staff were nice enough.
