Best Western Royal Oak

This hotel was perfect for a stop doing a road trip. It had everything that you needed.. rooms were clean. Staff was friendly. It had conveniences like an ice machine, and there was a microwave and coffee machine in the room. The beds were comfortable although didn’t use it. There was a heated pool and Jacuzzi. This hotel is dog friendly. They even had a small dog park for the dogs. The only critique is that it was quite expensive for this level of motel. But this is San Luis Obispo in California so I’m sure that it’s typical for this area. Other than that I would highly recommend this hotel.

Stayed here for a wedding and chose this hotel for convenience, but the experience was extremely disappointing. We arrived at 3:00pm (check-in time) and didn’t get our room until 3:50pm, with little to no apology. When we finally got in, we were given a double queen room instead of the “Larger King” I booked months in advance. There was no notice of this change. Calling the front desk was frustrating—I was left on hold, forgotten, and then told I could “check out and book somewhere else” if I didn’t like it. Speaking with staff in person didn’t help. They blamed the reservation system and again suggested I leave, which is unrealistic when same-day bookings are far more expensive. The only compensation offered was $20 (later said to be $40), but only $20 was actually refunded. I paid around $600 and didn’t receive the room I booked, dealt with delays, and was met with poor customer service throughout. Overall, very disappointing experience and not what I expect from Best Western.

This is a good if dated hotel that is well equipped and comfortable. The bedrooms have all you would want and a good bed. The general amenities are good, with an excellent pool and a good large hot tub. Tho breakfast is a bit basic by European standards and the everything throw away for plates and cutlery does grate. The hotel is a bit out of the centre, but is close to beautiful parkland, and a shopping area with many restaurants. Dated a bit and would benefit from a revamp, but nevertheless a good place.
