Granada Hotel & Bistro

We chose this hotel primarily because of all the good reviews. After staying there we’re very skeptical of the legitimacy of those reviews. This entire property is exceptionally dark. The floors, walls rooms and hallways are ridiculously dark. To input our key into the door lock in the hallway during the day time you need a flash lite to find the lock. The art and room decor is very lacking. All the lites in the room give off the same amount of lite you would expect from a nite lite. The bathroom is tiny with a small shower about three feet from the toilet. The shower also has a glass window in it that others in the small resting area can see into the shower. My wife could not put make up on without a flash lite. The tv gets no movie channels or local stations. There are no phones in the rooms. To contact the receptionist you’ll need to use your cell phone and call the hotels main number. Our bill for two nights was $950.00. Absolutely not worth it!! The only nice thing about the hotel was that it is very centrally located in SLO and walking distance to most events. We will never stay there again. Many better choices for that amount of money.

Excellent food! The cook is imaginative; he replaces quantity with complementary flavors to achieve wonderful results. I had the vodka rigatoni pasta, mildly spiced, which w as excellent. My wife enjoyed the pan seared scallops. Our waiter, Callie, recommended the Honey Butter Cake for dessert. My best (non-chelate) dessert ever. It’s a popular restaurant, so consider reservations. Service was not fast, but that allowed us time to savor the food and the experience. Highly recommended!

Don’t stay here - they’ll accuse you of stealing. I booked this hotel for a work trip -- I had never stayed here before so I didn't realize robes were included in every room -- but they were not in ours. After seeing a guest in the room next to us wearing a robe, I called front desk and asked for a robe, and they offered to bring some up. Well, they never did, so I went down to the lobby to grab them, and explained the situation again and was given the robes. At no point in this interaction was I told the room came with a robe, and to help us find them rather than give us a new set. A few days post checkout, I was charged $450 for THREE robes, more than the cost of our single night of stay ($340). I spoke to the front desk (Sarah) and general manager (Nadia) who kept insisting they kept accurate inventory count, and that is was our fault for taking the robes if we didn't want to be charged for them. My friend asked if there were photos taken to prove house keepers left the robes in the room - they didn’t have any. I did not receive a receipt or invoice for these charges, so I only found out once I was doing accounting a few weeks later. Nadia, the general manager refused to acknowledge the situation as a possible mistake, since the front desk never told us our room had robes - their mistake. There is no physical way we could have taken 3 robes, nor would I ever offer to lose $450 over cheap hotel robes worn by hundreds of other guests. The service and experience was lower than any mainstream or boutique hotel experienced. I highly recommend staying at the Apple Farm Inn or the Petit Soleil next time.
