Blue Sands Motel

Unfortunately, Blue Sands Inn was one of the more disappointing stays on our California road trip. The location is good if your priority is being close to the beach, which is only a short walk away. However, we found the property generally quite poorly maintained and not particularly clean. Our room was very basic and, although we had been looking forward to using the pool, its position right next to a busy road, combined with the fact that it didn't look especially clean, meant we decided not to use it. Another unusual aspect of our stay was how little staff presence there seemed to be. We met one member of staff when we checked in, but didn't see anyone else for the remainder of our stay. When we left, reception was completely unmanned. We found the whole setup a little odd and impersonal. Although the beach is convenient, we didn't find the location particularly good for enjoying Santa Barbara itself. We needed to take an Uber into the main town for dinner and back again. Having visited, we would definitely choose to stay closer to the centre of Santa Barbara next time. Overall, the proximity to the beach is a positive, but unfortunately the cleanliness, general upkeep and lack of staff presence let the property down, and we wouldn't choose to stay here again.

Perfect little inn. Friendly reception staff. We had a pool side room and the pool is the nicest pool ever, so warm. Kitchens have all the essentials including a kettle which not everywhere has. Nearby to a running trail and exercise park. A 20-25minute walk to the wharf and state street which we all enjoyed.

Loved this gem of a hotel. Stylish and comfortable, and an excellent welcome at reception. Easy 20 min stroll on the boardwalk to shops and restaurants. Shout out to Josh in reception for the recommendations and sparkling wine!
