Palihouse Santa Monica

The staff was great, and while the room was somewhat dated, it was still lovely and had plenty of character. The bed, however, could definitely use an upgrade. The mattress was saggy and lumpy and was not especially comfortable. My biggest concern was the cleanliness of the bathroom. There was hair in the shower and spots on the counter and sink faucet. The spots wiped off very easily, which gave me the impression that the room simply had not been cleaned with enough care or attention to detail. The carpet could also use a thorough cleaning, particularly around the baseboards. I have no problem staying in an older building with charm and character, but I do expect it to be spotlessly clean. I also would have preferred breakfast to begin at 7:30 a.m. rather than 8:00 a.m., especially for guests who like to get an earlier start to the day. Overall, the staff and character of the property were highlights, but improved housekeeping and a better mattress would make a significant difference.

First glance, charming -- the lobby, historic quality, outdoor terraces, lovely staff. Woos you. Once you get to your room... the place is BEAT. Carpet is absolutely filthy. Well overdue for replacement. My shower leaked two nights straight, all night. I brought to attention of staff first day--not change. Place has an overbearing smell a bit like you're great aunt's old house that hasn't changed much over the course of your entire life. Again, super charming.. in terms of potential. It's just time for a lift... on all fronts.

I love the historic hotel architecture, the resort associates are super nice and made me feel welcome. Breakfast service very good.
