Spurs N Lace

My boyfriend and I had such a lovely stay at Spurs n Lace Inn. The home is absolutely beautiful, full of historic charm and peaceful energy. Our room was spotless, cozy, and thoughtfully decorated. Breakfast each morning was a highlight, homemade, delicious, and shared with kind conversation around the table. Arlene was a wonderful host who made us feel truly at home. This place is a gem, and we’d love to stay again.

All the reviews I've read thus far are pretty accurate. We stayed two nights in September in the Heritage room. We found the room to be a bit crowded but clean. Arlene is a quirky host (former engineer, which explains a lot), and if you don't have the patience or desire to listen to her stories you won't enjoy the stay. We were quite happy to spend an hour at breakfast with her - she has had a fascinating life and has done so much, especially given her sex, field of expertise, and the scarcity of women doing that kind of work in those days. working as an engineer in the oil industry! Growing up on a ranch! Skiing in the 1950s and 60s! Working on cars! She has encyclopedic knowledge of many different topics and an amazing memory for detail. I was not crazy about the lack of variety in the breakfasts and the final cake course was not to my taste, it was much better than the chain hotel offerings (rubber hard boiled egg, anyone?). And the location in Old Colorado City close to Garden of the Gods and Pike's Peak is great. We would definitely return.

There were many things to like about this property: it has a great location, it's beautiful, and the breakfast was very tasty. However, the bed was extremely uncomfortable and the hostess insists on joining breakfast and dominating the conversation. Breakfast is only served at 8 a.m., so if you like to sleep in or have other plans, you are out of luck. I'm not sorry we went, but we won't be back.
