Our ski club visited Keystone during the 2025-26 ski season and stayed in the River Run village. It was my first visit to the resort. My roommate and I were assigned Dakota Lodge unit 8494. The lodge is nearly at the opposite end of the village from the gondola. That felt like quite a hike in ski boots while carrying my skis, at least to this past-middle-age person. There is a ski check at the gondola but I was unwilling to pay $15 per night for it. Still, when you're not in ski boots the location is quite nice. You're one pedestrian "street" removed from the heart of the village so you've got easy access to dining and shopping. The lodge is also right beside the ice skating rink, which becomes a miniature golf course in the summer. The Dakota Lodge's front door is easy to reach whether you're being dropped off by a shuttle or by car. If you have a vehicle, there is one parking space allotted per unit in the underground parking facility. On the ground floor you'll find a bit of lobby seating, a ski locker room (one locker per unit, two keys per locker provided), the sauna, as well as some of the lodging units. Out the back door is the heated pool and two hot tubs, though only one of the hot tubs worked consistently when we were there. The Dakota has two wings of approximately the same size in an L-shape. Our unit, 8494, was nearly at the end of one wing, overlooking the pool and hot tub. Immediately upon entering there was a built-in bench with a tray on the floor, perfect for storing wet ski boots. Above the bench were several hooks and a basket for all those ski accessories like gloves and helmets. Nearby was a small rack for the ski locker keys which are on lanyards. It always amazes me at how few ski locker keys are provided in most places. If this unit can sleep 4 adults, there should be 4 ski locker keys. Never assume that people who sleep together will ski together! But in this case it was fine as there were only two of us in the unit. The kitchen was right inside the door and at first glance seemed large though with just two of us in it, we still had to maneuver around each other a little. There were two separate, deep sinks to go along with the usual appliances: fridge, dishwasher, coffee maker, and microwave. A kettle was also provided. My roommate made chili that we were able to munch on several times during the week and enough pots, pans, and dishes were available so that we only had to run the dishwasher a couple of times during the week. The kitchen counter has three or four stools and there's also a hightop table with seating for three. The condo can theoretically sleep 6 though at least two of those will need to be children as will be explained shortly. There was a large L-shaped couch that was probably once super-comfortable but is showing signs of wear and it sagged in a few places. The massive TV over the gas fireplace would probably have been wonderful if we could have ever turned it on. Even with visits from the maintenance team we never could get it working. That was a shame because it meant the only TV that was useful was the one in the master bedroom. The unit also had a small porch and a couple of chairs which overlooked the pool and hot tubs. Fortunately there were no noisy folks using those late at night. The master bedroom had a king bed with a chest of drawers and a closet for storage. Its en suite bathroom was truly that. While the toilet had a door that closed, the double-sink vanity and the shower/tub were open to the room. There was a small built-in hair dryer in each bathroom. The second bedroom was clearly meant for someone traveling with kids. It had a queen bed and then a metal frame over it that supported two bunks that ran parallel to the bed below. So the upper beds were perpendicular to the lower bed. It was very strange though I'm sure kids would love it. The ladders for these beds fell right in the middle of the side of the queen bed which made getting in and out of that bed a bit of an adventure. This overhead bed frame also meant the folks in the queen bed couldn't see the wall-mounted TV. I suspect only the person whose bunk was closest to the TV could see it. There was only one chest with three drawers in the bedroom. That doesn't seem like much storage space for three people but then it was quite a tight fit. Since one of the two closets in this bedroom was locked for the owners, it meant there was only a tiny closet available. It was half-filled on the bottom with fans and a number of humidifiers and a couple of box fans and the upper shelf was packed with bedding for the two upper bunks. I was glad not to be sharing the room with anyone! The bathroom for the second bedroom is off the main room, across from the kitchen. It's a little oddly shaped but fits in with the unit. While there's quite a bit of shelf space, a lot of it was already being used to hold extra tissues, toilet paper, washcloths and towels. There was a small ledge over the sink but no storage under it. I liked the black & white bear decor in this bathroom and really appreciated the extra corner shelving in the shower/tub area. It was nice to have hooks on those shelves where I could hang my swimsuit as well as my washcloth. But there weren't enough of those if the four people from the second bedroom were all using this bathroom. While there was only one towel rack, there were some hooks on the wall behind the door as well as a big hook on the back of the door, which was helpful. While the sink's water heated up super-quickly, the shower's water took a little longer to get hot. But I loved the adjustable showerhead that gave me the strong spray I prefer. There's no fitness facility in Dakota Lodge though I suspect that people staying here can use the facilities at one of the sister properties in the village. The lodge does have a couple of laundry rooms, one on the second floor and one on the fourth floor. During our visit it was $2.50 to wash and $2.25 to dry. There was a coin machine in the second floor room that I visited and the machines could also be paid via credit card or app. All in all it was a pleasant stay at Dakota Lodge and I'd be happy to stay here again on my next visit.

Let me begin by saying that I rarely if ever write bad reviews for hotels or vacation stays. But I had to for this trip. I booked through SUMMITCOVE LODGING, which seemed great in booking the reservation. This was a very expensive 2 bedroom rental in what was positioned as a 4 star property. I'll share my experience here. Check in was fine and all seemed to be good until arrival into the condo. I brough my daughter for our first ski trip since just before the pandemic, so it was to be a very special time together. Unfortunately, first night, a rodent was found in the condo. We called the next morning and after hours, they sent someone to put down two traps. I missed my first day of skiing with my daughter waiting. I let it go. But then they never came back for the traps with the dead rodents, ever. Never even checked back. Never offered anything to make up for my losing a precious day of vacation and sending my daughter out alone. After she had to sleep on the couch because she couldn't sleep in the room with the rodent and slept on the COUCH the entire trip not trusting that the rodent was killed in the bedroom by the traps. Next, it's deceptive that they show gorgeous photos of the slopes on their website for the property and condo overlooking beautiful mountains. The morning we awoke and looked out at this anticipated beautiful view we were promised (I booked this condo specifically because of the view from our condo and pool area), there was almost none. new construction of numerous condos blocked most of it. I don't know about Colorado, but in other places, it's called false advertising to post views that don't exist in rental properties. I own two condo rentals myself. Just wow, bordering on sleezy. So, I was going to let all this go, but called night before to get 1 hour late checkout from their 10AM checkout time. They would not answer me until the next day after 9 PM, saying an absolute "no" to my request, knowing what they put us through. This was the shocker. We had a rodent in our condo, lost my first day of skiing with my daughter, she lost first night of sleep and slept on the couch for the whole week, never heard back from them, fake photos of views posted on their listings, and they had the audacity to refuse a 1 hour late checkout request or charge me for another day. Besides this, there were other things wrong with the condo (cabinets that had bad hinges and wouldn't close, ripped shower curtain, etc. But those are minor things despite a 4 star property claim. We cleaned up the place almost immaculately (took photos) despite these experiences...because that's what we should do. We didn't take out the garbage because we couldn't find a trash center...they shouldn't ask renters paying $3K+ per week with 0 housekeeping services to do that anyway, but we tried to find it. No front desk personnel, so no one to ask. SO, if you're considering this property and SummitCove, I'd think again. Perhaps if we got a well cared for condo, had "real" photos of the property views, and had a property management group that gave a hoot about a RODENT in our condo and made sure they made it a priority, we would have had a better experience. But instead, their callousness turned a wonderful daddy/daughter trip into a continuous set of aggravations. Shame on SummitCove.

Dakota Lodge at River Run Village is a multi-story condo complex in the Keystone Resort area. The condos are not large, but have full size appliances in the kitchen. The lodge is convenient to everything in Keystone resort. We visited during the CoVid 19 pandemic and were impressed with the extra cleaning and efforts to reassure patrons that the area was a safe place to be. The pool/spa area was by appointment only, but the technology sometimes crashed as the limited appointments were snapped up quickly. The directions were not entirely clear, but the pool attendant gave us a couple of pointers on how to get on the waiting list (not mentioned in the directions) so we had a couple of short times in the pool during our stay. The units are not air conditioned and since our unit faced west and we happened to be there during a heat wave it got pretty warm between 4:00-6:00 pm, but cooled down quickly in the evening. Different management companies rent out different units. All in all it was a great place to stay during the off season. It was relatively quiet, a short walk to the Snake River and right on a bike path. You are still in a village, but a short drive to many outdoor activities.
