My wife and I had planned an 8-day driving trip through south central Utah and western Colorado for early this month (July 2026).
Unfortunately, to avoid increasingly active and emerging wildfires, heavy smoke, evacuations and emergency operations throughout our Utah and Colorado route we had to make a judgement call and ultimately pulled the plug on our whole trip on 6/28 before our 7/3 departure. The outlook was for more of the same Red Flag fire weather into at least the next week so we quickly cancelled all lodging and dining reservations. Every hotel, and the one Airbnb we had booked were most gracious, understanding and flexible with their cancellation policies with the exception of the Beaumont Hotel in Ouray. Management at the Beaumont was steadfast. Their policy, which I was generally aware of, states that cancellations within 30 days of the first night will be charged a 50% cancellation fee (I had to cancel at 10 days out). Looking back, those terms were also a "Red Flag" that I should have paid more attention to up front. Of course, the Beaumont has many 5-star reviews and we expected those would reflect 5-star customer care in extraordinary circumstances. At the Beaumont, it does not. As with our other lodgings, I had sent a polite request for cancellation, explained our concern about travel through wildfire areas (including the emerging Gold Mountain Fire at Ouray) under widespread "State of Emergency" proclamations, knowing that no end to the truly dangerous regional conditions was in sight or forecast. The Beaumont responded in a voice message that their cancellation policy was firm but that they would offer to move our dates. We didn't know our future dates and I wasn't reassured by the message. I responded with an email requesting to speak with the GM thinking that might be productive. The response back was a strange and menacing email from an unidentified someone at the Beaumont which escalated quickly into legal jargon and accusing me of fraud. Yes, they used that word. Then they signed off with an insincere "We wish you the best of luck!". Whoa, time to move on. We'll be rescheduling our trip in the future with special attention to rebooking at the hotels and the Airbnb where we had to cancel. The Beaumont however is off our list and I expect that we're off of their list, too.
My advice if you're considering the Beaumont? Take time to search for and carefully read the details of the considerable fine print of the cancellation policy in their website. If you must cancel within 30 days of your stay for any reason no matter for dire personal or (especially) natural disasters, be prepared to be charged 50% of your TOTAL stay which will also include all various external taxes & fees. No adjustments and no exceptions. In contrast to our other bookings for that trip, our treatment from the Beaumont doesn't sit well and we will remember. I suspect that we're not alone.

We had a very disappointing experience today. As locals, we chose to spend Mother’s Day enjoying the brunch and pool, expecting a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, that was not our experience at all.
From the beginning, a staff member at the front was unnecessarily rude to us while we were simply greeting each other. When we calmly brought our concerns about the customer service to the manager, instead of addressing the situation professionally, he chose to remove us from the facility because we expressed that we were unhappy with how we were being treated.
What was most upsetting was how disrespectful and unprofessional the manager was during the interaction — to the point that one of my friends was left in tears. We later spoke with the owner, hoping for some understanding or an apology, but instead we were told he would “review the cameras,” with no acknowledgment of how poorly the situation had been handled.
It is incredibly disappointing to be treated this way after supporting this business for over a year. Sadly, this experience completely ruined our Mother’s Day, and we will not be returning.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Beaumont Hotel in Ouray. We visited during a quieter time of year, and that actually made it even better—calm, intimate, and a genuinely cool experience you don’t get when a place is crowded.
Esther, the owner, was the highlight for us. She was warm, attentive, and very accommodating, and she even showed us around the hotel. You can tell she takes pride in the place and wants guests to have a great stay.
If you’re the type of traveller who prefers character, charm, and a personal touch over something generic, this is absolutely worth it. We’d happily stay again and we hope this review helps support a lovely local business.
