Our recent stay over the Independence Day weekend was, without hyperbole, one of the most disappointing hospitality experiences we have ever had. Despite paying a premium holiday rate of nearly $470 for what was advertised as a "four-star inn," the reality was a derelict basement room that would be substandard for a budget motel.
The list of failures is extensive:
Sanitation & Hygiene: The room was not cleaned. I found shampoo residue still clinging to the bathtub walls and dead bugs scattered throughout the room. The furniture was not just dated; it was stained, chipped, and clearly neglected.
Infrastructure & Maintenance: The refrigerator freezer door would not close, and the plumbing was so poorly maintained that every shower and toilet flush from the three floors above was audible, accompanied by a deafening rattling in the pipes.
Safety & Comfort: There was no air conditioning. When I opened the window for basic ventilation, the broken screen allowed insects inside, leaving me covered in bites by morning. To top it off, the pillow was lumpy and hard, rendering a good night’s sleep impossible.
The "Inn" Discrepancy: The marketing photos paint a picture of a charming, antique-filled establishment. In reality, the facility is crumbling. The "included breakfast"—a meager selection of muffins and cereal—was the final insult in an experience that provided less value than a $60 roadside room.
The only redeeming quality of this establishment is its proximity to the main business street. However, location cannot compensate for a lack of basic cleanliness, non-functioning utilities, and a total disregard for guest health and comfort. If you value your money and your health, look elsewhere. This hotel is effectively selling a premium experience while delivering a product that fails to meet even the most fundamental standards of a budget motel.

My husband and I arrived on Thursday and left on Saturday, so it was a short stay, but we enjoyed our time. As other reviews had stated the hotel is older and could use some updates, but for the price, cleanliness, and location it can't be beat. It is literaly a block from main street and two blocks from the gondola. Our check in and out were very positive with friendly, knowledgeable staff. Our room was 201 next to the office, which I did not mind as there was a bench just outside our door that we used to sit and enjoy coffee and the view in the mornings.

Arrived to a waiting room & balcony with people waiting to check in. There were 4 other families before us & another came in when 1st person was checking in. Sign on desk said running errands be back soon. Then a number only if it was an emergency.. 4:10 one of the other people called. They had already been waiting 20 mins. Check in is at 4pm. He came about 5 mins later. Limited tight parking behind house. I believe I requested 1st floor when I booked because there’s no elevator. All those ahead of us were put on the 3rd floor. 2nd floor is main level & where we were. NO Air Conditioning either. Even with cooler weather it’s very stuffy. My husband went down next morning for ice for our ice chest & caught sight of those rooms down there when a door was open for air. Avoid the basement rooms!! They need to leave windows open until people arrive at least. There is 1 small fan .. I opened a window & put fan on small table mainly because it’s the only outlets I could find usable & those are at floor level. Even the coffee pot you have to wedge it between bathroom sink counter where the short coffee plug can work.
Room appears clean & we had 2 queens because when I booked months ago it was the only thing available. There’s a very small kitchenette …sink & burner are one unit & next to each other in a maybe 3 foot space with nothing between the 2. Not the safest setup. I’ll include photos. Small sink for bathroom next to it with a wall divining the 2. Bathroom is Very small. Breakfast was a grab & go .. they had cereal, some sweet rolls, sausage, oatmeal & a couple types of homemade muffins.. they were burnt. Some fruit as well. Most of it went while my husband was waiting his turn. He gave up & we ate on the road later. Room works for 1 night… barely. Worst sleep we’ve had on a trip in a very long time. Bed wasn’t very comfortable nor any of the pillows. Add in lack of air .. I can not recommend it for the cost. After noticing a number of issues I’m not sure how they even pass city/state codes to be open.
