Hotel Gasthof Gramshammer

Rude staff, zero parking even after they said they did, and bogus charges added to your bill with no recourse! They don’t have air conditioning and we were basically told ‘deal with it’ and it was loud all night long as you had to have the windows opened! Never again!!

I wish I could write a better review, and I hope it's helpful. You can tell that this was a wonderful place to stay years ago. The first impression was great. The location is terrific. There's no need to worry about trying to park in the very small on-site garage unless you have heavy luggage or a lot of it. The Vail Village garage is only a five minute walk away and is $25 cheaper for an overnight stay. The front desk staff was lovely and helpful, and the whole hotel was very clean. My room was almost unbearably hot and stuffy, though. There is no air conditioning, which I know is standard for older hotels in Vail. This probably worked well years ago, but summers are much too hot now. I couldn't spend much time in the room because of this. The balcony is much cooler, which was helpful. It didn't help to open the sliding door while in the room. In any case, this couldn't be done at night since there was no screen door, and the blackout curtains covered the door opening. Breakfast was quite good. The signed pictures on the bar wall are very interesting, although all of them that I saw were quite old, another sign that this was once a great hotel and I'm sure could be again. I wouldn't stay here again during the summer, but I would love to try it in the spring or fall when the weather is cooler, and probably in the winter, although I'm not a skier at the moment.

Founded in 1964, the property carries an authentic Austrian charm that makes you feel as if you’ve stepped into St. Anton while still being in the heart of Vail. The on site ski and apparel boutique is beautifully curated with high end gear, and the ski rental shop offers top tier equipment that serious skiers will appreciate. The spa facilities, including sauna, steam room, and fitness center, are perfect for unwinding after long days on the slopes. What truly sets this hotel apart is the people. The staff are consistently attentive, warm, and genuinely kind. If you have the chance to meet Sheika Gramshammer, you’ll understand why she is considered one of the defining figures of Vail. Her decades of leadership, hospitality, and community involvement, alongside her late husband Pepi, helped shape the spirit of the village. Their legacy is felt throughout the property, from the welcoming atmosphere to the deep sense of history. For anyone looking to stay somewhere that combines premier location, authentic alpine character, exceptional dining, and heartfelt hospitality, this is simply the best choice in Vail.
